OEM filter doesn't sound too bad anymore with price going high on every aftermarket filters here.. i miss $2.40 on these.

I use this on my old Nissan (15+ years old vehicle) that drives around 5-6K miles per year (just office commute and errands). I change the oil annually, and I would not recommend going any longer than that interval or miles with this filter. It's fine as long as you stay within that ~5K / 1 year limit.

Do you have data to show they are bad after 5k/1yr?

No, but at 6K miles I can definitely see that the oil color is considerably darker than 5k. Anecdotal observation, but the magnet tip of the drain plug also has some small metal stuck to it when I once changed at ~6.5K miles. That has not happened since I switched to 5K interval.

The car is too old for me to bother sending samples to lab on; so spending and extra $25 to change oil and filter every 5K miles instead of 6k miles seem fine to me. Given how little I drive per year, that translates to an additional $5-6 per year for the peace of mind.
