These things work well and you don't have to touch the weeds but it does leave a cone shaped hole in your lawn. I ended up getting rid of mine (had 2 types) and just use a crazy long knife that came with my bbq set (it's long and skinny) just slice right under the weed and pull it up. No hole and no weed.

This is not at all the tool you would use for something like poison ivy. For poison ivy you would be better served in getting coveralls/thick long sleeves/thick nitrite gloves/thick socks and tuck your pants into them.

Just spent the whole day pulling some ivy outta my yard so I am very confident in this reply.

This tool is a very cheap version of something used to pull semi-shallow rooted weeds.
