This 85 inch Sony Bravia 5 Mini LED TV stands out as a big screen value with strong picture quality and a free five year Costco warranty. Setup impressions are positive, and the image quality gets praise even from owners of the 65 inch version. The main tradeoff is the Android based smart software, which can feel slow, buffer during casting, and sometimes needs a restart, so an external stream box may help. Transport and in store pickup also take planning because the set is heavy and awkward to move.

Common Questions (5)

  • It is large and heavy enough that buyers recommend a cargo van, minivan, or truck bed, and it should be kept upright to reduce damage risk. The packaged TV weighs just under 150 lbs, and one buyer fit it in a Honda Odyssey with careful maneuvering.

  • The picture quality is reported as very good, with multiple owners saying it looks great and they are happy with it. The main caveat is the Android/Google TV software, which can feel underpowered, buffer when casting, and may need a restart or an external streamer.

  • The interface is described as simple enough for basic use, but the Android-based software can be sluggish over time. Casting from Google apps and YouTube can buffer or fail until the TV is restarted, while AirPlay works more smoothly.

  • At $999.97, it is a strong value for an 85-inch Sony, especially with Costco's free 5-year warranty included. It is described as a decent TV and a good price if you need a big screen, though not Sony's top model.

  • Yes, the Costco deal includes a free 5-year warranty. That warranty is a major part of the value proposition for this in-store offer.

How the heck do people take a 85" TV home from the store? Everyone drives a box truck as their daily?
Haha good question. Likely need a pickup truck, maybe a large SUV if you unbox it.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

i have this TV for two months now, I like the the image quality a lot... and thats the positive. The TV software, which is android based, leaves a lot to be desired...and i think is that this TV's CPU is under-powered or it's apps are not tuned for it. For example, casting to it from google apps, just sucks, the videos cant play well, it just buffers, but Airplay, on the other hand, works better, almost seamless. Casting from Youtube is hit or miss, I have to restart the tv in order to fix the YT casting issue. I will be buying some streambox (apple or google) still undecided to get over the SW shortcomings. I wish Nvidia would release a newer Shield....

PS: for this price, i wouldnt complain about the SW. I paid $1700 after an adjustment. That's plenty of savings to buy an apple tv or nvidia shield to fix those issues.

I bought this through Amazon, and the dudes came in to my house to drop it. Dont think this would fit in a a regular truck, it could be damaged in transit if is not sitting up straight.

Anyone have any experience with this model? Looking to upgrade my parents living room and the UIX needs to be simple and snappy
Buy a TV based on the picture quality ratio to price.
ALL TV OS SUX.... Android & WebOS being the better choice...but after a year or so the TV will start slowing down to a crawl and require a factory reset.
Buy them a Roku stick.... maybe an older model as the new ones can be bloated !!

Should I hold out for black Friday?
This is a very great price. I have found on Black Friday the TV deals aren't that good. Compared to when they want to get rid of last year's models after this year's models come in. I bought this exact TV at this price in June. It was the last one left.

I just grabbed one from Flemington NJ yesterday. They had two in the box and a floor model.

At this price, it was worth getting a cargo van from Enterprise. Was $112 all in and they had immediate availability.

Just make sure you have something to stabilize the box from tipping over! I had to put it between the two seats and drive like grandma with a Valium prescription.

Sounds good thanks! Those locations for some reason didn't show but I'll keep checking.
Went to home depot, $20 for a van, $30 for a box truck, deep discount like this was worth it for me.

Thanks OP. Was able to snag the last one that was new in box from my location. The display model was still available. Had my heart set on a 75" Bravia 7 II. But at this price I couldn't pass it up. Pretty happy with the picture quality so far.

Hauled it home upright in my truck bed. Weighs just shy of 150 Lbs including the packaging based on the spec sheet for those wondering.

No trucks available at Home Depot around me for weeks but they have the vans today. I would make damn sure the TV box can clear the height of the inside of the van before renting it.
