The is not a blood pressure monitor. This is an oxygen monitor. The tech in this is so simple. It measures the LED received against LED emitted. The difference between an expensive one and a cheap one is the difference of their price tags.

I've found that the two we have vary widely between the two and my Garmin watch. Enough that one would make me take my son to the ER if I hadn't had a second reading.

Me and relatives/friends bought a bunch of these before and during COVID (I bought the first.one in 2017 out of curiosity from G***Best for $9, then $17 in April 2020 from China, then $4-5 when demand dropped). They all read 97-100% pretty much all the time from healthy people. Then a nurse relative told me that by the time your blood oxygen drops to concerning levels, you are most likely visibly distressed (if not bedridden), so it's mostly a waste of money. She does have a few from a medical brand (McKesson?) for use on patients.

Even my $10 SKG (no-name) smartwatch has oximeter built-in that does periodic readings (not sure how accurate that is as I've seen as low as 90%, but then I like to wear my watch loose).

These $10 pulse ox monitors are really reliable. Really simple technology, much better than any smart watch on your wrist. I've had three different ones and they were all reliable. Comparing to cheap BP monitor is not valuable because a good BP is way more difficult technology.

If anyone wakes up tired, gasping for air, snoring, or have other sleep disruptions, it might be worth investing a few more bucks in a pulse ox that records while you sleep and provides software to view the results. If your levels drop often or significantly, it's a good indicator you need to consult with a sleep doc. It prompted me to make an appointment and get treatment.

I agree that many of the cheap ones are accurate, but if it reads 198% like the one shown, I would return it.

I had one for many years and never really needed it until my wife contracted possible pneumonia. She had fluid in her lungs that caused her oxygen levels to lower, and we had to monitor her oxygen level constantly at home.

I bought a different one at similar price range for my mom several months ago. She unexpectedly ended up needing a pacemaker so this device helps her keep track of her pulse whenever she wants without checking it with her Omron blood pressure machine. If this oximeter is like that one, then it should be a solid purchase

Not sure how accurate you want to your blood pressure reading is since it changes quite a bit regardless what device you use to measure. I actually do not think the price difference between a doctor prescribed (pretty sure they bill insurance company for hundreds if not thousands dollars ) and amazon sold chinese knockoffs in $20 range justify the presumed "accuracy" claim. My test actually find amazon sold ones generally is just as accurate, if not more accurate, as the ones prescribed by doctors, provided by reputable home medical equipment providers who definitely charges a lot of money to our health insurance.

I also bought a similar one about 10 years ago, purely because it looked like an interesting device, and the readings always looked plausible.
