Here's a few of the highlights:
  • This "+" model include an integrated dock. That means when traveling, you just need USB-C power and an HDMI cable to display on your TV.
  • It looks like it is purposefully thicker than the Switch. The front of it protrudes out a little bit beyond the Switch's screen. This should provide more protection for the screen.
  • It is likely more sturdy overall. The Joycons work fine, but they do have a tiny bit of wiggle. It also probably provides protection for the system as a whole as well.
  • This has hall effect thumb sticks. That means you shouldn't get stick drift, which is a massive problem for 1st party controllers. And by using this, you put less wear and tear on the official Joyconns. Hopefully saving you from needing to replace them later.
  • This makes the Switch more comfortable to hold. It does so by making everything thicker. So the Switch would become a bit less slim and portable. But the trade-off is often worth it to make it more comfortable in your hands.
  • It adds a few buttons on the back.

Biggest downside over joy cons is that the stick is not dock-able and it's a pain to remove the switch from this nitro deck.

One quick note: This has a symmetrical layout for the sticks and buttons, as opposed to the asymmetrical layout on official Switch controllers. Depending on your own preferences, this could be a good thing or a bad thing. But it's worth calling out.

Got one of these for $45 last month. Feels like a great upgrade over the OEM joycons. Grip is very similar to a steamdeck, much more comfortable for larger hands. I'm not a huge fan of the symmetrical layout, it feels awkward to reach the buttons on the right side (A/B/X/Y) but the back buttons come pre-mapped to the same buttons so I'm getting used to using those instead.
My unit doesn't feel cheap, I'm satisfied for the cost.
