Yeah, everytime I see a deal for the show I just feel like I'd be foolish to grab it when they're just sitting on a much higher quality version.

It's not HD on Paramount+. Your TV is probably doing a good job upscaling, but it's SD for sure.

I watched the entire show on there, it is absolutely HD. It has a blu ray HD remaster release. Paramount+ has it listed with the HD label. It is listed on just watch with HD - https://www.justwatch.com/us/tv-show/macgyver

I know Slickdeals immediate reactions are always saying "no that's not true" without checking, but these are facts. Please check and let me know what of the above are actually incorrect.

My apologies, so I subscribe to P+ through Apple TV, and looks like Apple TV app is using the same SD version that you can buy, as the streaming copy to serve for the P+ addon/customers, which is crazy.

I switched to the Paramount+ app on the same TV (logged in with Apple TV provider/creds), and it is indeed clearly HD! Glad it's still 4x3 though! But yeah streaming through Apple TV paramount addon they are clearly serving the SD copy because I guess that's all they have I dunno.

Appreciate you acknowledging your mistake. I am not perfect with stuff like this but I have a ton of retro shows on my radar that I love rewatching so I do keep an eye on what are HD and SD where. MacGyver and Knight Rider consistently have this problem. Both have remasters that the studios paid for but they refuse to share it to streaming services that are not their own. So third parties keep trying to sell us SD versions while a blu ray version or the Studios's partnered streaming service gets HD. It is awful.

I picked up Quantum Leap on iTunes/Apple TV a few years ago which I'm pretty sure is HD. Also bought Magnum when it went cheap which actually looks great!

I was so disappointed when Hulu removed NYPD Blue. I was in the middle of a rewatch and was so blown away by the HD quality. It looked so incredibly good. And of course on Fandango you can only buy a few seasons and they are SD. It's a tragedy that NYPD is not streaming in HD anywhere now...
