What airline is making you check this bag over half an inch? I've never once had that happen, even on Spirit.

Based on the price history : Over the past 30 days, the price of LIGHT FLIGHT Travel Backpack has ranged from $9.99 to $19.99. The current price is $15.99. Looks like the price could get cheaper.

Those size limits matter more with hard sided stuff. Unless you're packing this thing with bricks it'll compress down to 18".

Soft sided bags aren't normally an issue, it is the rigid carryon's they might nitpick over. If you can't make a soft sided bag compress 1/2" in one of those "if it fits" boxes, stop taking cinderblocks in your carry on bags Wink

Not your typical backpack - it's more like carry-on luggage!

I got this when it was around this price. I've taken it as my personal item on super cheap flights with no carry-on permitted. The main compartment is where it's at because the way it zips it's basically a very mini carry-on. I pack it the way I would pack a suitcase and I've been super pleased. The other pockets are ok, but that top pocket is perfect for your ticket (if you're still one of those people who insists on a paper ticket) and some ID. It's also the lightest I was able to find before buying, and even compared to my fellow frugal travelers who limit themselves to a personal item. I've never been asked to see if it fits the sizer. It was weighed once traveling internationally.

I haven't weighed it but yes it is very lightweight for having the padded laptop compartment and straps.
