I am not sure why. I believe their may be very solid plans to revive Energy and releasing these may be part of regaining Brand awareness. It may have been part of the deal with NEAD. JAMO is also part of the deal and will be releasing a number of new models with the intent to revive the brand as a HiFi brand and not Ikea esque.
All Energy RC-XX speakers were made in China. The were never manufactured in Canada.
The speaker line was announced in 2005 and rolled out in late 2005 and 2006.
Klipsch bought Energy in 2006.
These were basically manufactured while in Klipsch control for most of the speakers run.
There is no 'newer Klipsch' version, that said the original Energy company performed quality control on the product line in Canada before passing the speakers on to vendors.
I would suspect quality control went down when that stopped and all QC was done in China back in 2007.
Now it is likely back up as manufacturing costs are so low and the ability to produce high quality products at scale so commonplace it just comes with the territory.
I wouldn't worry and Klipsch does not own the brand anymore but they may be manufacturing them for NEAD right now.

These are an older design they did measure very well back in original objective testing from mid 200X, it would be nice if Erin's Audio or someone would receive a pair to test.
I can not say I really needed the extra set, but will be fun to compare.

The main thing I'd look for in a receiver is the features and number of channels you want, good reviews for reliability, and good power per channel, mainly for the RC70 towers and LRCR center. I'd look for 80-100w+ at 8 ohms.
You can get away with a less powerful receiver if you set a crossover such as at 80hz, because that pushes power to the subwoofer and saves power for higher frequencies.
I'd recommend finding your local Costco outlet store and see if they have a Denon 5.2 or 7.2 in stock (same ones that Costco carries). They all have different names, but these are local bargain outlets that Costco sells return inventory to (totally independent from Costco).
EDIT: You can probably find a good deal on a used one too on Facebook marketplace, but you'll have to sift through a ton of 20+ year old receivers that don't have HDMI 2.0+, Bluetooth, Dolby Atmos, or other features you might want from a modern receiver. For a 5 channel receiver, you should be able to find something for under $200 used, or around $300 new.

Where it lacked is movies and electronic music (anything with significant sound effects in the 20-50hz range), which is what you think of mainly when you think of thumping bass. It doesn't sound terrible, but bass is in the background rather than prominent. The tower speakers have small subs built into them, but it's a 6.5" driver and not a 10-12" like you'd get from a dedicated subwoofer, which makes a big difference at the lower frequency ranges.
Getting a good sub transformed this setup from nice speakers to movie theater-quality audio.
If you do run these without a sub, make sure to set your receiver speaker settings to "large" or "full band", not "small" like might be default, so that the receiver sends bass to all speakers.
If you're pretty happy with the 990f and you're main content is streaming, this nor the Klipsch package may not be worth all the hassle to make it worthwhile ime.
Proper setup is crucial, that's not automatic.
Streaming audio is pretty inferior & doesn't take advantage of what's possible.
If you just want to go traditional, this least expensive option would do.
Just add an entry level sub like Dayton 1200 or RSL10e & you're good.

They are the exact same speakers.
Same drivers, design, crossover, everything is the same.
For some reason Energy is re-releasing a number of old models that Klipsch/VOXX must still have had all the relevant production materials for.
Basically all the last stuff Energy came out with before they more or less when dark.
The brand has been sold and is being revived and I am guessing as part of that deal there was some assistance from Gentex/VOXX/Klipsch giving the company a boost by making new batches of all these models. 2025 (the year these seem to have been manufactured) was the year Gentex purchased VOXX and then this year they sold off Energy and Jamo to a new company.
Who knows the exact reason, the whole group is a part of a really massive company.
If these aren't old stock speakers, that is actually good to know since I know when others saw these come out again, it seems like someone found a stash of these in a warehouse at Adorama lol. To be clear, this line of Energy speakers were a good bargain for the perform they delivered upon first release.
"Most centers are merely an aesthetic match with the rest of the front stage, not an acoustic match. The problem is that so many center speakers use an MTM design, which we have often written about. For whatever strengths or shortcomings this design type has, one thing it will not do is match any normal front left/right speaker. The reason is that the off-axis response is radically different on both the vertical and horizontal axis. Much of the sound that you hear from your system does not come directly from the speakers but is acoustic reflections from room surfaces. This being the case, in order for speakers to sound the same in-room, they have to have similar acoustic behavior at all angles, not just for the single direction facing forward. Many center speakers just don't do this at all within their speaker line."
You add the cost difference & it makes it exponentially much more complicated answer.
Klipsch is overall a very bright/harsh sound.
This will be more laid back/neutral sound.
An advantage to Klipsch, if you ever wanted to add more speakers, it would be much easier to timber match them.
People always recommend matching LCRs, some even recommend identical speakers for them.
That reasoning/benefit doesn't change for any other position/speaker ime.
For what it's worth I believe the center is felt to be the weak part of this set. Not trying to be a jerk or anything but I had these back in the day and ended up using rc10 for a center I felt it just sounded better
It's the kind of system that you can buy, power with a decent receiver, and (likely) not worry about replacing or upgrading for a very long time.
Despite my long audio journey, these still tempt me every time I see them come on the market.
