It's essentially the same as the Black Label but slightly upgraded and made into a limited production run exclusively for Adorama. I've gotta admit, I'm tempted, even though I absolutely do not need this thing. 😂

It will work. I currently use the previous micro idisd black label version.

You will need to get an Apple Camera adapter. There are 2 types: both have a USB C male connector and then either a solitary USB A female port or a USB A and C female ports.

The solitary USB A female end will plug right into the back of the DAC without extra cables. The other one requires you to use an additional cable to connect the DAC to the camera adapter (can use the one included with the DAC) but will allow you to connect a USB C cable to the other port to charge your phone while in use.

So it comes down to if you want a clean and simple setup where you don't mind not charging your phone while using the DAC or if charging your phone while using the DAC is important. Obviously the later is a cable clutter. I have both types and prefer the first.

One of the best dac/amps I've used, period.

I paid full price for my black label and about $500 on sale for the non finale version of the iDSD Signature many years ago. The black label was sold to fund the Signature. My iDSD Signature looks and runs just like the day I got it.

I'm going to put it this way $219 is a steal, I highly doubt there is anything anybody could ever hope to get their hands on that will sound better than this. I might as well order another one to preserve it in the event my current one bites the dust one day, although, iFi is great to work with for repairs.

Just some of the stuff that I use as reference:

I'd say a decent pool of experience to draw from to express my opinion.

The only thing that I would want somebody to be aware of with this unit is that you will be unable to control the volume with windows or whatever you decide to plug this into, it's all done from the device itself. There is also a small pop sound after turning the device on if you have your phones plugged into it. I'd suggest not having any IEMs in while you turn this thing on to avoid it. It's not ear damaging but its loud enough that it could be seen as unpleasant. Lastly, this thing is powerful, be very careful with the volume on this one, there are plenty of settings on the device for volume controls to run with sensitive IEMS to providing enough juice to get inefficient planar headphones sounding damn good.

Yes. You can run it as a dad from an iPhone. This thing has pretty crazy power. The only issue I had with it is channel imbalance in the volume pot. Tough for sensitive iems.

What kind of IEMS are you running on this guy, Campfire Audio? The device has several modes to combat sensitive IEMs with Eco power mode, high and ultra sensitive IE match settings. I think for the majority of IEMs, which I've used at least 50+ IEMs with this device have not had any problems getting stuck in the small zone of the knob just before powering the unit off that would be in the channel imbalance zone regardless of running balanced or unbalanced. I generally listen around 70-75dB.

Let's just assume that this IS a problem you run into, an impedance adapter should further sort that out. You can buy them in either 3.5mm or 4.4mm at differing impedance ratings.

Yes it will drive planar magenetic headphones and is actually quite excellent with them. Xbass really really helps bring out the low end and give the mids a bit more fullness. With the 3D setting enabled as well it adds a bit more space and a small bump to the treble that pairs quite nicely with the added bass boost from Xbass to balance it a bit more. I find it almost a must for any of my planars. You might become a Xbass and 3D/Xspace junkie, it does a lot to enhance virtually any headphone or IEM. The only thing I wish this unit could do is to double the effect of Xbass, which you can do with the iFi Zen stacks but it might be a bit overkill for a lot of IEMs and headphones but planars handle it like a champ (such as XS or Sundara for example). One thing to note about this unit is it does sound a bit more holographic vs standard dac/amp combos you find out there but imo it is of benefit.

Would this work to replace my cmoy amp that's currently powering my old desktop speakers? They're 6ohm impedance but I listen at desk volume ... does this amp have short circuit or overheat protection if I connect my speakers to it, and it doesn't like them?
