There are better other good additions for the homemade recipe. For example someone pointed out that a teaspoon of liquid glycerin enhances it. It does.
My recipe
2 oz Dawn Platinum
2 oz Oil Eater Orange
1 tsp or so of liquid vegetable glycerin
water to fill
My version skips the alcohol and I replace it with Oil Eater Orange, and a teaspoon (or so) of glycerin. Oil Eater Orange is a concentrated degreaser and uses one of the same grease cutting chemicals (DGBE) as in Dawn Powerwash. The glycerin cuts down on atomization and gets the cleaner to stick to whatever you spray it on so it works even better. My version is solid.
If you want to keep it simple just use dish soap and rubbing alcohol.

Clarifications needed:
Dawn, rubbing alcohol, and water? Or just the first two?
Rubbing alcohol 70% or 91%?
