This Walmart+ oil change perk cuts a full synthetic service to about $43.88 plus tax, making it a strong value versus DIY or typical shop pricing. The main appeal is convenience, especially for drivers who would rather avoid changing oil themselves, and the discount can apply automatically when the Walmart+ barcode is scanned at checkout. The biggest friction is execution, since some Auto Care Centers seem unaware of the offer and wait times can be long. A practical option if your local store can process it correctly.

  • Drivers who want a synthetic oil change at a lower out-of-pocket price, because the discount can bring the service near DIY oil costs.

  • Walmart+ members who can get the barcode scanned at checkout, because the discount applies automatically when the membership ID is verified.

  • Car owners with hard-to-service drain plugs or top-side cartridge filters, because paying for the oil change avoids awkward under-engine access and messy DIY work.

  • Shoppers who want to watch the oil change happen, because the service area is visible through a fence or glass and the work is done to spec.

  • Walmart+ members who need a frictionless redemption, because some locations do not know the offer and the discount may fail to apply even after scanning the barcode.

  • Drivers who need a fast in-and-out oil change, because turnaround can take several hours and wait times vary by location.

  • People with low tolerance for service-center mistakes, because reports include wrong-fluid drains, missing filter replacements, and oily residue left inside the car.

  • Owners of vehicles that need more than five quarts, because the offer covers only five quarts and extra oil can erase the savings.

I have seen some shit oil change jobs come out of Walmart before. Pretty certain they used an impact wrench on a friend's oil filter. Replacing oil and coolant caps with random things laying around, milk jug caps, etc. Also seen them not even replace the oil filter several times. I wouldn't get my or my loved one's oil changed at Walmart even if they paid me $25. Just stick to the 10c off at the gas pump.
They took these stories seriously a few years ago and now their oil changes are extremely by the book and strictly follow guidelines. I actually feel more confident getting my oil changed here because you can usually watch them do it behind the fence or through glass. Torque to spec and everything.

Seems like an awesome deal but nothing in my account as of yet and I see rules say "ANNUAL WALMART+ MEMBERS".. wonder if this is another push they are doing to get people to pay for the whole year up front as I've heard they are struggling with cancellations due to Amazon and Kroger free delivery.

As far as quality, I have had a few changes at Walmart some years ago out of necessity and I'm not sure if it is only in the Midwest or not but everyone here,in every single department,is running on about half a box of crayons in the brain department and explaining or ASKING anyone for anything new is always always like talking to a groundhog with a language barrier. They just look at you and give you that dumb stare with a slow blink.

I'll be checking back on how this rolls out until the stores and what you guys report back...we know the stores aren't going to mention it to employees or train them on it or anything..and it is a written rule that the only supervisor who does know about it has to be off work the day/shift people inquire about it.

Oil changes are one of those things I don't trust anyone to do correctly.
That's how my wife's Subaru hot damaged. "Technician" in that place drained transmission fluid instead of the oil...

Don't take your car to Walmart for oil changes! Do yourself a favor and go look at the horror stories on their website.

I see the benefit listed at the top of the main account page, but when I click the "Learn More" button it's not listed as an in-store perk.

I'm a Walmart+ annual member but I do not see any membership barcode. I've looked everywhere in the app but no luck. Wish Walmart can make this easy for their members to find

I was just about to start doing it myself because I learned you should just be putting synthetic in every car.. but at this price it's basically the same as even kirkland synthetic, and I can shop instead of getting sweaty under my car
Buy cars that have filters on top part of engine.
Haven't been under a car (FOR Oil changes) in over a decade.
I maintain 5 cars (out of 7). All Full Synthetic.

So true. I also prefer doing all my own dental work because I just can't trust the experts with my molars.
I'm sure your dentist with at least 8 years of post-secondary education as well as a national certification and a state license, along with your dental hygienist who has at least 2 years of post-secondary education, a national certification and a state license, appreciate being compared to the high-school dropout using an air wrench on your drain plug.

I did my own circumcision for the same reason.
