This Walmart+ oil change perk cuts a full synthetic service to about $43.88 plus tax, making it a strong value versus DIY or typical shop pricing. The main appeal is convenience, especially for drivers who would rather avoid changing oil themselves, and the discount can apply automatically when the Walmart+ barcode is scanned at checkout. The biggest friction is execution, since some Auto Care Centers seem unaware of the offer and wait times can be long. A practical option if your local store can process it correctly.

  • Drivers who want a synthetic oil change at a lower out-of-pocket price, because the discount can bring the service near DIY oil costs.

  • Walmart+ members who can get the barcode scanned at checkout, because the discount applies automatically when the membership ID is verified.

  • Car owners with hard-to-service drain plugs or top-side cartridge filters, because paying for the oil change avoids awkward under-engine access and messy DIY work.

  • Shoppers who want to watch the oil change happen, because the service area is visible through a fence or glass and the work is done to spec.

  • Walmart+ members who need a frictionless redemption, because some locations do not know the offer and the discount may fail to apply even after scanning the barcode.

  • Drivers who need a fast in-and-out oil change, because turnaround can take several hours and wait times vary by location.

  • People with low tolerance for service-center mistakes, because reports include wrong-fluid drains, missing filter replacements, and oily residue left inside the car.

  • Owners of vehicles that need more than five quarts, because the offer covers only five quarts and extra oil can erase the savings.

I somehow cannot convince myself to get Walmart membership. Literally everything is cheap on Amazon.
Eh, it's 2 different beasts. The major thing with walmart is free same day delivery past $35 for things like groceries or anything else in their local store. You also get paramount+ (with ads), and 10 cents off per gallon of their already cheap (and good imo) gas. Most of the time I need more than $35 worth of groceries so that's fine and it comes in a few hours. Also, you have free shipping for many items and they can come next or same day without the $35 minimum. These are the reasons why I think the membership is totally worth it, especially since it saves me time from actually shopping there, which I don't like. Saves me a trip and a LOT of time.
Also, if they shopper does forget to bring an item or chose a rotting food item, you can easily get reimbursed for it no problem, and in my experience these problems are very rare.

I would rather do it myself than have any Walmart tech touch my car.

Just used this deal yesterday. Our local Walmart crew was clueless on this deal. Lots of excuses of why they where not able to give the discount. Customer service told me all Walmart Service Centers are included. Make sure that at the end when you go to pay that they scan the barcode as a vendor coupon. As long as it is scanned properly it works great -$25 from total.

So true. I also prefer doing all my own dental work because I just can't trust the experts with my molars.
I do that with my hair cuts too because I can't trust other barbers or hairdressers to cut my hair with the correct filters, so it's layered out correctly.

They took these stories seriously a few years ago and now their oil changes are extremely by the book and strictly follow guidelines. I actually feel more confident getting my oil changed here because you can usually watch them do it behind the fence or through glass. Torque to spec and everything.
I had my oil changed at Walmart until I took my 2018 RLX in for oil change. The service technician incorrectly opened the transmission fluid plug and lost some of the fluid(I did not witness this but was told by the service manager after the fact.)
They told me they recovered fluid(was not told how much was lost) and placed it back into the car then did the oil change.
Acuras and Hondas are notoriously sensitive to the transmission fluid that they receive. The service manager did not inform me of the incident after it happened nor asked my input on what should be done(I would have bought transmission fluid from the Honda dealer, a block away).
They charged me full price for the screwed up service, expressed no apologies, took a total of 3hrs(though I had booked the service in advance) to get the oil change done, and the tech left oily residue on the driver side door, center hand rest, and smudges on the leather seat.
I swore never to get a Walmart service of any type from then on since it cost me an additional $200 to get the transmission fluid change at the Acura dealer and have warned away family and friends from Walmart auto service.
Lesson learned. I did research afterwards to see if any Walmart service center around me was any good and all within 45 minutes of my location had ratings lower than 3 out of 5 on Yelp or Google.

Not thread crapping the deal, but just wanted to share my experience for others who may not be aware or see some of the things that go wrong in those quick service centers.

That's how my wife's Subaru hot damaged. "Technician" in that place drained transmission fluid instead of the oil...
Same for me. Then they tried to hide it, made me pay full price, no apologies, and sent me on my way with a dirty interior car from the technician. I was even there when one of the technicians started talking to the service manager about the incident involving another service tech.

I was just about to start doing it myself because I learned you should just be putting synthetic in every car.. but at this price it's basically the same as even kirkland synthetic, and I can shop instead of getting sweaty under my car
You should def still learn to do it yourself. Or at the very least double check their work before you drive off.

Oil changes are one of those things I don't trust anyone to do correctly.
And if you do, it's most certainly not Walmart. I take mine to the stealership. I could do it myself, but too old to be crawling around. Wonder if I can talk my wife into letting me build out a walk down bay in front yard? Hmm Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Open the app, go to the "store mode" and you should see "my barcode" section somewhere on the top. They should be able to scan this code at the register @ checkout. Let us know if this works

Then you learned incorrectly. If (the manufacturer) calls for it, by all means use it.

Just like with your stock Honda Civic, you ain't doing anything and turning it into a track killer by using 93+ octane.
yeah that was my reasoning as well for years. By no means do I baby my car but synthetic degrades more slowly, has lower viscosity at startup so for any given interval of oil change you are basically being a little nicer to your engine and/or can worry less about how many miles you go. Also you get a 1-2% bump in fuel economy

It's not a huge deal either way, but given synthetic can be had for the same price, conventional is essentially obsolete.

I heard the benefits pay for the membership itself. A friend told me he calls when item is defective and they give him like a $10 or $15 code for a future purchase which has ended up paying for the membership. She got like $100 worth of coupons. Crazy!!

In the app go-to account then under Walmart + choose in-store Perks. Pick any perk that states show barcode. The barcode is the same for all perks(discounts).
