Community Reviews
Kasa's outdoor Wi Fi smart plug is a simple, reliable way to automate holiday lights, patio strings, fountains, and other outdoor decorations. It works well with Alexa, Google Home, and the Kasa app, and the app can handle schedules, dusk routines, and multiple devices in one place. Long term outdoor use is a strong theme, with several years of trouble free operation in covered or exposed setups. The main caution is durability in harsher weather, since one unit developed a fault after New England winters and rain. A practical pick for basic outdoor scheduling if you do not need Matter or Apple HomeKit.
Common Questions (4)
It has been used outdoors for Christmas lights, patio lights, and fountains for years, including through snowstorms and multiple seasons. A covered porch or limited exposure helps, but one report notes a failure after heavy rain and GFCI trips in tough New England conditions.
Buy the Matter version only if you need Apple HomeKit or local network control. If you just want Alexa, Google Home, or the Kasa app, the standard Wi‑Fi plug is described as reliable and sufficient.
Yes. The standard Wi‑Fi version works well with Alexa, Google Home, and the Kasa app for basic outdoor schedules like holiday lights. Matter is only needed if you want Apple HomeKit integration or local network control.
Yes. It can be scheduled and turned on or off from the app or Alexa, which is useful for automating holiday lights or shutting them off during bad weather. The app also offers multiple control options, including dimming on compatible versions.

(Like during a snowstorm so the inflatables don't try to inflate with a foot a snow on top of it)
We also have a bunch of Kasa plugs used indoors, nice to everything in one app.

Also FYI - you can manage all the Tapo and TP-LINK devices using the Tapo app only in addition to adding the matter devices to however many hubs you want locally (i mostly use the Tapo app as a last option versus my chaos HomeKit/Home Assistant/Alexa setup).
