I found the interface to be slow and inefficient, and the display to be underwhelming. The battery life was not good. It also charged very very slowly.
The case cover is grey (white model), which feels like a cheap choice in not having matching plastic covers to go with the color of the calculator.
It is USB-C finally, which their flagship nSpire still isn't.
The options for customizing the screen or print layout were non existent, which is frustrating when the layout isn't very modern.
The display print format is not great. My 20 yr old TI-89 exceeds it, which feels like a really sloppy design choice for a new model.
It doesn't feel focussed on being a good device to use. It feels focussed on checking boxes without having any user testing to see if it's enjoyable to use.
If you don't need a TI-84 specifically for school, I don't recommend it.
I returned it and am going to give the numworks a go, which is $99 on Amazon at the moment.
Community Reviews
The TI-84 Evo is a school-focused graphing calculator that keeps the familiar TI-84 layout while adding USB-C charging and a few useful math upgrades. The interface stays consistent with older TI calculators, which helps in classrooms, and the degree and radian handling, fraction display, and easy decimal toggle are practical touches. It also preserves the tactile keypad that beats typing on a phone or tablet. The main drawbacks are a slow interface, weak battery life, slow charging, and a display and print format that feel dated. A solid fit when school compatibility matters more than modern polish.
Common Questions (4)
Probably not. It is described as mainly justified for testing and school use, while the price is considered high for what it adds compared with a phone or older calculators.
No. The TI-84 Evo is reported to have much worse battery life than the 84+ CE Python, and it also charges very slowly. It can be a downgrade if long battery life matters.
The biggest upgrade is USB-C charging, so no special cable is needed. It also can convert degree inputs while staying in radians mode, and it shows rational answers as fractions with an easy toggle to decimals.
Yes, TI-84 calculators can run games and custom programs, including older setups like MirageOS and user-written equation-solving programs. That kind of use is possible on the platform, though exam settings may require clearing memory first.

You have to press extra buttons before you can even do a calculation from "off", and there's no way to default to calculations right away.
