I bought one of these EVO models for non-school use during these back to school sales.

I found the interface to be slow and inefficient, and the display to be underwhelming. The battery life was not good. It also charged very very slowly.

The case cover is grey (white model), which feels like a cheap choice in not having matching plastic covers to go with the color of the calculator.

It is USB-C finally, which their flagship nSpire still isn't.

The options for customizing the screen or print layout were non existent, which is frustrating when the layout isn't very modern.

The display print format is not great. My 20 yr old TI-89 exceeds it, which feels like a really sloppy design choice for a new model.

It doesn't feel focussed on being a good device to use. It feels focussed on checking boxes without having any user testing to see if it's enjoyable to use.

If you don't need a TI-84 specifically for school, I don't recommend it.

I returned it and am going to give the numworks a go, which is $99 on Amazon at the moment.

I was just thinking the same thing. Although I had a TI-89 back in 1999, and somehow I worry this would be a downgrade.

Good pricing... fairly new unit. Basically turned 84+ into more of the nspire interface. As a math teacher for the past 14 years, I prefer not getting into newer calculators unless it really adds to the abilities or makes things a lot easier. I couldn't tell you if this unit does either of those.

weird tech niche TI found themselves in. It's for schoolkids and you dont want the calculator to become so advanced it can solve the problem just by looking at it. the kids are supposed to figure out how to solve, so having a tech device with limited power they dont have to change it to fill the need. there's no need to evolve it

Yeah I get its purpose but its price is insane considering the phone in your pocket can do a very considerable amount more.

If it wasn't for testing and schools, these would be obsolete. But it sometimes nice to be able to type it with a tactile feel and not on a phone or your PC.

I started college using a slide rule ( picKett made in Santa Barbara, California )... which I still have. But it does not have Python Frown . Maybe time to upgrade.

It is a downgrade. The print format is worse, the battery life is way way worse.

You have to press extra buttons before you can even do a calculation from "off", and there's no way to default to calculations right away.
