I Googled ...
"How hot can a car get in the summer sun?"
The inside of a car can easily reach 130°F to 172°F when parked in the summer sun, shooting up by more than 40 degrees in just one hour due to the greenhouse effect.
"What happens if lithium batteries gets too hot?"
When lithium batteries get too hot, they suffer permanent capacity loss, swell up from gas buildup, and risk entering a catastrophic self-heating state known as thermal runaway, which can result in fires or explosions.
Stages of Heat Damage
Capacity Loss: Temperatures above 45°C (113°F) accelerate internal chemical wear, permanently reducing how long the battery holds a charge.
Swelling and Venting: Around 60°C (140°F) and above, electrolytes break down and create gas, causing the battery pouch or casing to puff up and release pressure.
Internal Short Circuit: The thin plastic separator inside the cell melts around 130°C–140°C (266°F–284°F), allowing the internal layers to touch and trigger a rapid short.
Thermal Runaway: Extreme heat or a breached separator causes an unstoppable chain reaction where the battery generates its own intense heat, smoke, and fire.
