I am sitting in front of mine here in August and feel zero heat coming off of it unless i put my hand 1/4" from the screen. Now, If you turn on HDR in Windows for whatever reason, it does get hot. If you turn off HDR in Windows it acts like any other monitor. Not sure why that is. But I turned it off over a year ago and it's perfectly cool.

Love this monitor. Basically two 4k monitors side-by-side.

Be warned though, it's practically a space heater. Great in the winter, not so much in the summer.

Samsung's 57 inch Odyssey Neo G9 is a huge dual 4K ultrawide that shines for productivity and gaming, especially with the built in KVM, picture in picture support, and strong multitasking setup. The panel can feel like two 4K monitors side by side, and some setups run it well on Mac with the right hardware and refresh limits. The main caveats are heat, which can be noticeable with HDR and high refresh use, and desk space, since the stand and V legs are large. Mac font rendering, HDMI port reliability, and demanding GPU requirements also come up, making it a powerful but setup sensitive display.

Common Questions (5)

  • It can run very warm, especially with HDR enabled in Windows, high refresh, and full 7680x2160 output. Turning HDR off reportedly makes it feel like a normal monitor, though some owners still describe noticeable radiating heat during long sessions.

    CarpeDeoEspresso_Yes_NowPratticusslickslickety

  • Yes, but the usable HiDPI modes depend on the Mac model and macOS version. Some owners report good results on M2/M4 Pro/M4 Max systems, while others only see limited scaling options such as 3840x1080 or 7160x2160.

    CarpeDeojustinmm2erikj123CarpeDeo

  • It works well for both productivity and gaming, but the 57-inch VA panel needs a lot of desk space and often benefits from an arm or heavy-duty mount. For demanding games at native 7680x2160, upscaling may be needed because the pixel load is extremely high.

  • No USB-C is included; the monitor has DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.1 instead. That means it cannot charge a MacBook over one cable, and a Mac mini may need different cabling or Picture-by-Picture depending on the model and desired resolution/refresh.

    Eragornjustinmm2bbg2015justinmm2

  • The current non-discount price is $1,449.99, so the EDU/EPP offer saves about $200. Some shoppers also reported stacking targeted Samsung app discounts, an upgrade bonus, a promo code, and an Amex offer to get the effective price lower.

I got this monitor over a year ago and I absolutely love it! I switch between my work laptop and my main PC using the built in KVM. It's mostly used for productivity. I also bought the secret labs heavy duty monitor arm to mount it to my desk. End game monitor for me especially for work!

This monitor absolutely slaps for work and gaming. Do be warned though, the v stand is huge, so arm/desk mount is the way to go. Haven't had issues on MacOS as well.
Agreed! I paired mine with the Secret Labs heavy duty monitor arm.

What mount are you using?
I have the Atdec BT75. It's a little spendier than I would have liked but excellent quality and very sturdy.

I saw this a Microcenter and stood in front of it for a bit. I spoke to the rep while doing so and noticed the weird audio effect because of the way the monitor surrounds you. It's very tight. It definitely had some oddness. For those using this for work, do you have any issues with audio, like you're in a tunnel? I'm currently using 3 curved 32" 2k gaming monitors now, but was thinking of moving to a single one like this. Also, trying to understand the connectivity. Does it use a single connection or do you use two?

It's one connection per source. So you can use the whole screen from one connection, or you can use one of the picture-in-picture features by connecting to multiple machines, one wire each.

The monitor is now $1,449.99 for everyone, so the EDU/EPP discount only saves you $200, which is still quite good. I think the standard price may have changed recently.

Do you have EPP/EDU? This does not stack. I've been monitoring prices on a couple of accounts and right now, the non EPP/EDU account is getting the lowest price.
