  • How did we get from being nothing at all to where we are today? How did the age of the dinosaurs eventually give way to the age of the iPhone? In this completely revised update to the international phenomenon A Short History of Nearly Everything, Bill Bryson returns to answer these questions and many more.
  • Bryson brings a groundbreaking account of life itself to a new generation of readers, as he takes subjects often passed off as boring and incomprehensible and renders them accessible, fascinating, and outright amusing to anyone who's ever wondered about the world around them. Introducing readers to a diverse cast of the world's most impressive archaeologists, paleontologists, physicists, astronomers, anthropologists, and mathematicians—from their offices and laboratories to dig sites and field camps—Bryson embarks on a journey to discover answers to the biggest questions about the universe and ourselves.
  • A Short History of Nearly Everything is a profoundly enlightening, surprisingly humorous, and charmingly clever adventure into the realm of human knowledge, as only Bryson can render it. His revamped Short History is a thrilling journey through time and space, and his writing will make readers both new and old see the world in a whole new way.

Bought last year when it was still 1.0, happy to see that Google updated my version to 2.0 (released in late 2025).

FWIW, according to Wikipedia, the 2nd edition contains extensive revisions to all chapters, correcting errors from the original and accounting for significant advances in scientific knowledge since 2003.

A great book. Reads easily, you can stop any time and pick up again. Over the years I've given the physical book as a gift to curious minds. Always been appreciated.

Also several years ago I went to his speech and a different book signing event. I asked him publicly in a QA session if he would consider updating his book. He said there were no plans. Again that was a few years ago. Turns out he did, I didn't even realize there was a 2.0 out there until today. So maybe my little entreaty helped a bit. Amongst others I'm sure.

Glad to see it has an updated version. I read this book many years ago on the road when I used to travel. Back then I like randomly buy books at airport before flight. It was one of the best books I have read. Great writing, easy read, super informational, encourage anyone who has curiosity how our science knowledge arrived here today, when it was started by who and how.

FYI if you bought this before on Kindle, mine was showing the title with 2.0 but the actual content was not updated. I had to remove the download and open the book to download it again with the updated content. This was in the iPhone Kindle app. Time for a re-read once I get done reading all the books from other Slick Deals!

I have a twenty year old paper copy and Audible. Need that Audible one to update to 2.0!

The version where bill bryson narrates it himself is so much better, but this is still an incredible listen/read. Nothing beats Bill Bryson!
