Arctic MX-4 is a basic nonconductive thermal paste that works well for routine repasting and tinkering, with a spatula included for application. The paste is described as ordinary rather than truly premium, and the real-world temperature gap versus other pastes or pads is often only a degree or two. MX-7 and Thermal Grizzly products are repeatedly framed as stronger performers, with better conductivity and longevity. Counterfeit MX-4 history also makes certified retail sourcing important, so this is a straightforward paste with a few sourcing cautions.
MX-4 can still be useful for computer tinkering when decent thermal paste is needed.
Thermal Grizzly KryoSheet pads can maintain performance over time without drying or hardening.
Thermal Grizzly KryoSheet pads can be cut down to fit different GPUs and CPUs.
Liquid metal performance can vary mainly due to application technique, so paste application consistency matters.
MX-4 performance is described as average and the "Premium Performance" label is considered a stretch.
Counterfeit MX-4 units may still exist, so buying from a certified retailer can reduce risk.
Amazon fulfillment for related Arctic MX orders can be slow and may ship from Arctic rather than Amazon.
Temperature differences between thermal pastes and pads are reported as small, often around 1-3°C.
