This Craftsman screwdriver set is best known for its durable acetate handles and long service life, with the blades and handles still holding up after years of daily use and rough treatment. The set also carries the Sears Craftsman lifetime warranty, and the familiar feel still compares well against rubber-sleeved alternatives. The main drawbacks are the strong aging odor some handles develop and the fact that these are now made in Taiwan rather than the old Western Forge USA versions. It remains a nostalgic, hardwearing set if the smell and origin do not matter.

  • The screwdrivers can hold up for daily use over many years of garage work.

  • The set can be covered by a Sears Craftsman lifetime warranty for long-term ownership.

  • The screwdriver handles can stay durable after drops, pounding, and brake fluid exposure.

  • The set can feel better than rubber-sleeved Klein screwdrivers during everyday use.

  • Some screwdrivers in the set can develop a strong unpleasant odor over time.

  • The set's manufacturing source can differ from older Western Forge versions, with current production reportedly in Taiwan.

  • The odor can worsen when the screwdrivers are stored in an enclosed tool box.

  • Free shipping may not apply broadly, which can make the checkout shipping benefit illusory.

And here I thought they had ALL closed. Had a neat Sears Grand outlet near me before they all closed here in CA...

There are still Sears B&M stores?
Mall of America! They did something like a $1/yr 100 year lease that hasn't worked out so great. It's not exactly open but the sign is still there while they battle out the legal shiz.

Wait.... Is that why my screw driver drawer smells funky!? It's been years and I could never figure out why!
I'm going to take these out and see what happens.
Yep, give them to your worst enemy: https://petroleumservicecompany.c...mmonality/

Wow - I thought it was just my screwdrivers. I have the entire set but only some of the screwdrivers smell bad!

Postman just delivered my Sears catalog and they're the same price in the catalog.
All kidding aside, why does it seem that craftsmen screwdrivers are the only ones color coded like these? At my age it's hard to see if it's Phillips or slotted without glasses.

Ah the old black friday vomit-scented-handle screwdriver sets of yore.... Someday I'll pass mine on to an unlucky soul who will wonder why their toolbox smells like the toilet stall following Quentin Tarantino's bar scene in Desperado.
Dad passed some extras on to me before my wife bought me this set years ago. Big ol' whiff of vomitty nostalgia every time I go in that drawer. I can hear him yelling about holding the flashlight steady. Good times...

These days I've moved to Vessel Woodies as my daily drivers.

Yep, these were a popular $19.99 Sears sale special (especially with the little keychain) back in the day.

Used to be made by Western Forge, I wonder who is making these for them now?

Walmart sells Made In USA acetate handled under the Hyper Tough brand, that look just like these.
The Walmart ones are assembled in the USA, not manufactured.

I agree. I have a couple rubber sleeved Klein screwdrivers and they still don't feel like these.

I believe there are 4 or 5 left in ll of America, I lived by one of the last ones and it was as depressingly dirty, understaffed, and understocked as you'd think.
Yeah, I thought they all gone, but turned out there are 5 B&M stores left:

Remaining Sears Store Locations
  • Braintree, Massachusetts (South Shore Plaza)
  • Concord, California (Sunvalley Mall)
  • El Paso, Texas (Cielo Vista Mall)
  • Orlando, Florida (The Florida Mall)
  • Coral Gables, Florida (Standalone location)

I don't mind the plastic smell, but I'll pass on these chinese made screwdrivers. I bought 50+ sets 20 years ago stored in the barn. They are decent screw drivers, I use them daily.

These look exactly the same as the set I bought 20 years ago! Still have and use them in my garage!

I STILL have a set of these from 1999 when I bought a massive tool set from Sears. Old USA made sockets, ratchets, impact gun, you name it. GREAT stuff that has taken some incredible abuse. The screwdrivers have a god-awful vomit smell. Have no idea what causes that or how to get rid of it. Crazy.
