I think that's mostly the linear style compressor. Not sure if they have the same issues with the newer inverter style compressor?

Bought a Kenmore (LG) 30cu ft fridge about 9 years ago. 3 years in the compressor died. was still under warranty so had a repair tech come out and replace the compressor (since the cost of the repair was cheaper than buying a new 30cu ft fridge/freezer) and he said the same thing, that these compressors are pretty trash tier. 6 years later, still going somehow.
note: we just recently had some symptoms of a compressor failing start to pop up: freezer began to defrost, no cold air blowing in fridge. turns out the vents on the back of the fridge were completely clogged preventing fresh air from reaching the condenser coils. Vaccumed all that out, and back to working. so this is you're random advice for the day, be sure to vacuum your fridge vents atleast every couple years.

Yes. I dont see issue for newer inverter. We actually have linear type purchased 2014 and still going very strong. Iast year we got 40% cashback offer so i actually hoped it go broke. Its been 13 years and had zero issue

FWIW I have this exact same fridge since 2021. There were 0 issues with the compressor. There was one issue with the lower door fan making some weird noise and it was taken care of under warranty.
I love this fridge. it's quiet, big, the ice makers (both of them) work flawlessly and you have the option to configure the middle drawer either as a fridge or a freezer which is a really useful feature for me.

I have an LG 28cu French door with ice machine and water dispenser refrigerator in 2012.
It's still going strong.
14 years and I have no issue at all.

This one has window AND mini door which at least provides some utility if constantly reaching in for coffee creamer or something but I mostly agree. Mine has no door but has knock to view window. How we use it is for things kids are allowed to have without asking. Fruit, nuts, yogurt, cheese and meat snacks go in there and we sneak treats in occasionally. They can look and choose rather than staring blankly with the door open for three minutes and no more, "Daaaad, can I have an apple?"

I don't drink enough to justify the space taken by the craft ice but it is kinda fun for guests occasionally. They're not perfect but with RO connection they come out like 2" clear Death Star balls, there's a dimple in 'em. Believe compressor issues were resolved years ago. As to energy usage, mine pulls ~70w 24/7 unless doing something unusual.

peaking from my own experience: LG fridges are known for their fancy appearance, but the quality is terrible. In just two years of using 2 LG fridges, I had to call for service more than ten times to replace the doors, compressors, control boards, fans, and more. I eventually ended up donating both of them.
