The Sonos Roam is a compact portable speaker that sounds consistent within the Sonos lineup and works well as a shower or travel speaker, especially if you plan to use AirPlay and skip the Sonos app after setup. The hardware gets praise, and the battery life can stretch to about two weeks with daily shower use. The main concerns are the original Roam's UI and app problems, plus reports of premature battery failures and units that never power back on after fully dying. It feels like a small Sonos speaker with useful wireless convenience, but reliability and software history remain the big watchouts.
The Roam can use AirPlay so the Sonos app may be unnecessary after initial setup.
The Roam can deliver consistent sound across the Sonos lineup for some owners.
The Roam can work well as a shower speaker in humid conditions for at least one reported daily-use setup.
The Roam can be set up via AirPlay so everyday use may avoid interacting with the Sonos app.
Roam Gen 1 has been linked to poor UI and premature battery failures, so Gen 1 may be a risky buy.
The Roam can become unusable after the battery dies, turning into a "brick" for some experiences.
Some feedback says the Roam's software experience is poor and that better options exist at the same price point.
The Sonos app has had unresolved issues after major updates, even if it may work for some setups.

Mine lives in the shower and I use it everyday, and charge it maybe once every two weeks. It's a great shower speaker with voice control, AirPlay capability, and is rugged enough to live it's life in a humid environment like a shower. If I replace it however, it'll be with a Play (2026)
