I like the Nothing 1s a lot. So much so that I bought the 3s last week, I think they're great for people who like bass-driven music. They're very dynamic when it comes to hip hop and R&B music, maybe even hard rock and guitar-heavy music. If you like a more balanced sound, go with something else. You can EQ music to your liking, which makes these headphones for me. I like that you can QR scan EQs. I found some good ones on Reddit. The ANC is good, even though some people say it isn't as good as popular brands, I have no complaints coming from Bose, the so-called world-class noise-canceling headphones company. As for the sound, there's no stark difference between these and popular brands, such as Bose and Sony. At times, they sound better to me because they are more dynamic. Even if the sound isn't to your liking, I don't think you'd find them to be jarring.

These are great cans. Haven't heard the 1s, but from the research I did, people prefer the a out of the box than the 1.

I would not be surprised if the 'a' is tuned more for a 'V' shaped fun sound but all of what I am saying is based on thinking out loud.
Keep in mind the shape of your ear and seal quality will greatly affect the bass and highs of any headphone. Those things affect the mids much less but obviously the overall balance will be greatly affected.
Who cares because the are easily tuned if that is in a buyers wheelhouse.
