This Gears of War E Day Xbox controller stands out as a collector focused limited edition with strong visual detail, including 3D etching and raised accents that feel more special than a simple color swap. The design gets praise for looking distinctive, and the Xbox battery setup is defended as flexible because it can use AA cells or rechargeable packs. The main knocks are the $90 price, the lack of included rechargeable batteries, and worries about stick drift or sticky triggers over time. A flashy pick if the design matters more than the hardware debate.

  • Some owners report no stick drift issues across Microsoft controllers, which supports day-to-day stick reliability for them.

  • The limited edition design includes 3D etching and raised features that stand out beyond a simple color swap.

  • The controller can reportedly be serviced by taking it apart and using different battery types or a rechargeable pack.

  • Some users report sticky triggers can be addressed by planning for TMR stick replacement later with soldering.

  • The controller's power setup can require AA batteries or other battery purchases, which feels costly at around $90.

  • Stick drift can reportedly appear within weeks or within months, which can make the controller feel disposable.

  • The non-user-replaceable internal battery design can force future battery replacement to rely on specific batteries and tools, increasing e-waste risk.

  • The controller can develop sticky triggers when the rubber damper deteriorates over time, which can make the right trigger consistently stick.

E-waste Controller more like it! This will develop stick drift within 6 months.
Never encountered drifting in any MS controllers.

Imagine paying for a controller that needs AA batteries for $90.
You 100% have options rather than a proprietary battery that you have to replace the whole controller. This thing will not be obsolete.

You can put in a loop batteries in there, lithium batteries, regular alkaline batteries or a rechargeable pack that cost more. One thing's for certain I can take apart my Xbox controllers replace parts and never have to worry about a lithium battery that will be harder to source.

Some people just do not understand how we are leading to a world that everything we own is built with limited use. We've gone so far back to now we're in a state where we don't even own our media anymore. And these places can limit when you can download or ever. Don't think all these conveniences are for our good.

I use AA, but I get them for free.
I've had the same amazon AA rechargable batteries for a decade.

it's hilarious you're calling anyone a fanboy for Sony when you're the only one mentioning Sony in the first place.

it's even funnier that you're claiming they're defending Sony as if they're the only company who uses rechargeable batteries in their controllers, when that's literally the exact opposite: Micro$oft is the only company who still uses AA batteries in their controllers. Nintendo, Sony, 8bitdo, literally every single other company uses rechargeable batteries because they're way more convenient. And most people who use the Xbox controllers end up buying rechargeable battery packs anyways.

there is certainly a fanboy here, and it's you
That's the entire point. That convenience can exist on Xbox controller too, without the need to make it e-waste or force you to use specifically made batteries.

Xbox controller can use AA batteries or plenty of other packs that can charge just fine.

Instead, the other controllers may have convenience out of the box, but the next time you need to replace batteries, you'll need to hope a battery exist or isn't some cheap third party with risk of fire AND break out that screwdriver.

In other words, people aren't complaining rechargeable batteries. They're complaining about the non user replaceable battery and the intent to make it unnecessarily e-waste so you'll buy a new one.
