$40 seems to be a normal price for most of these Chinese DC motor 42" fans on Amazon.

It's about basic supply chain economics. Virtually every residential ceiling fan, whether it's a $40 direct-import unit on Amazon or a $200 Hunter or Minka Aire, uses DC motors and electronic components manufactured overseas. The price gap isn't where the motor was built; it comes down to overhead. White-label brands sell direct from the factory with minimal support, while established brands charge more for US-based customer service, safety certifications (like UL ETL listing), dedicated quality control, and long-term warranty/parts availability.

The few "US-Made" exceptions are niche & expensive. Companies like The Original Windmill Ceiling Fan Co. (Texas) or Matthews Fan Company assemble fans or fabricate blades/housing in the USA, but even they rely on imported electrical/motor components. These fans typically cost $500 to $1,500+. Companies like Big Ass Fans (Kentucky) or Patterson Fan Company do heavy manufacturing and assembly in the US, but these are commercial/industrial high-volume low-speed fans, not 42-inch bedroom fixtures.

Uh cool. My point was this wasn't slick.
