I have security and privacy concerns with certain apps and want to be able to control what is on my phone's network. Just FYI, for anyone else with similar concerns.
Unless you're some luddite still using a blackberry, I can assure you--you're using a screen in some way, shape, or form as a transportation aid.
Lastly, in case you may have missed it. The rear camera and a screen has real-world practicality.
Once you connect your phone to this device the phone becomes the comms device for uploading your personal data from the snitch device that you are voluntarily adding to your vehicle, just like a well-socialized, sacrificial, lemming.
The rear view mirror attached to the windshield, along with the side mirrors, have real-world practicality. You're trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist and in doing so justifying the mounting of an interactive distraction that gives up your PII on your dashboard.
"Luddite" is a proper noun, so we capitalize it. The word has some interesting history. Check it out. I am one of the many Silicon Valley engineers who are proud to be Luddites.

After some research it seems they are all made by never heard of brands. Not necessarily a bad thing.
Two styles of screens. Long and barrow and more conventional tablet dimensions.
Some brands and models tout ota firmware updates.
Besides screen shape, the other biggest difference i see is some just have a back up camera like this one while others have rhat as well as front and dash cams. If i got one of rhese i would want one with the dash cam as that would remove redundancy and clutter.
Prices vary quite a bit with some models $70 -140 while some are $300 when not on sale. Gotta wonder if the quality is that different from budget to supposed premium.
