What is this for? Has anyone successfully used this with their pool?

Typically a conditioner will help the chlorine not burn off in the sun as fast while also leaving the water feeling "smoother". I use the liquid form, and it's a lot more expensive than this.

I prefer the liquid form also. It does go on sale if you watch it.

If you use liquid chlorine or a salt water chlorinator, CYA needs to be added separately. It protects the chlorine from the sun. It doesn't get used up though. Once you have the right amount (~70ppm) you don't need more unless you lose water from rain overflow, leaks, splash out, etc

Anyone using chlorine pucks or granules should make sure they aren't already adding this stabilizer (cyanuric acid- CYA) as part of those methods. Typically most pools should be between 50-100ppm CYA.

CYA is only reduced from splash out or water changes and builds up from chlorine pucks over the season. Use too many pucks and this level could get out of control, too.

Lots of tips and pool education in the forums at TroubleFreePool.

I keep my CYA around 60-70, I have SWG. If you're using liquid chlorine only, then you would probably want to be in the 50 range. If you're using trichlor pucks, then you're just doing pool maintenance wrong.

On a side note, stocking up on solid pool chemicals over winter = good. Don't do it with liquids.

Also, for solid CYA, easiest way to use is just put it in a stocking or mesh bag and hang it in your skimmer. Then just let it melt into the water over the course of several hours or a day.

Pretty decent deal

I bought 50 pounds on Walmart for $100 but I did have to buy way more

My Poole uses about 5 to 10 pounds a year

12,000 gallon with saltwater chlorine generator in Southern California
