Memory leak on Chromium

181 155 August 13, 2026 at 07:23 PM
This has been going on for a while to the point where I have stopped using SD on desktop. Something on the webstie causes extensive CPU usage and memory leaks on any Chromium browser to the point of browser becoming unresponsive for minutes. I've tested it with my primary Edge, Chrome regular with some extensions, and a blank install of Chrome Canary. How can I help you find the culprit?

The team released a possible fix for this issue recently. Can you please let us know if this issue is fixed for you now?

No. Browser task manager is still showing 5-14% CPU usage on SD tab in focus.

I have issues with this site and Firefox. Have been for months. Refresh the main deals page (old style) and all the text loads but it takes a century for images for each post to load. Meanwhile I can't get another tab one to load anything. I'm either stuck waiting for it to stop sucking resources or force close Firefox (yes force close because it remains running in task manager even though I hit the X to close the browser) to then open the browser again and go to my email or whatever I was TRYING to check while Slickdeals was taking it's sweet time loading everything up.

I'm on Gig fiber 9950X3D with 64GB ram there is no excuse why a page that used to load with dialup back in the day in a few seconds takes a century now to fully populate a page.

I can tell you many times it hangs up on the facebook tracker/data mining what the hell ever link up runs while the page loads because it will just sit there in the bottom left saying it's loading or whatever the hell it says.

If I catch it again I'll update the post. **UPDATED WITH IMAGE 4**

First image is what I'm met with every time I refresh the page or go to slickdeals for the first time in a new session. It will sit there with all the missing images forever and the tab doesn't show it's actively working yet no images.

Second image is the resources with a 5th tab open loading another slickdeals page to grab the first image.

For the heck of it I opened edge that has 3 starting tabs then opened another and loaded slickdeals fully and instantly then compared the resources between the 2 as the main page was still loading images on firefox. see third image

High CPU usage and slow rendering but only in Edge.
