Thermacell E-ZoneGuard Glow is a rechargeable mosquito repellent lantern that can make a backyard or grill area noticeably more comfortable, especially on calm days after the 15 minute warm up. The scentless operation and long battery life are appealing, and the deal gets better when refill pricing and Amazon perks are stacked. The main drawbacks are uneven real world performance, with reports of it failing against Asian tiger mosquitoes, in breezy conditions, and in heavy mosquito pressure. The liquid refill also costs more, can evaporate if left uncapped, and a timer would make it easier to use.
Common Questions (5)
It can reduce mosquitoes in some areas and has no scent, but it did not work for every yard or mosquito type. Reports include success around a grill and fewer mosquitoes when running, alongside failures against Asian tiger mosquitoes and in heavily infested yards.
It uses a liquid repellent refill rather than the individually wrapped pads used by some butane Thermacell models. Refills were mentioned at $12.50 for the 40-hour refill, but the liquid can evaporate if the cap is not put back on after use.
Yes, it does not have a timer option, so it needs to be turned off manually. That matters if you tend to forget and let it run dry.
It can take up to 15 minutes to start working, so it should be turned on before you head outside. Once it has warmed up, it can clear mosquitoes from the immediate area around a grill or patio.
It works better on calm days and can be useless when there is a breeze. For best results, use it in sheltered areas rather than open, windy spaces.

I ended up returning it because instead of the individually wrapped blue repellant pads that the butane ones use, this uses a liquid repellant that costs more and ends up evaporating if you don't remove it from the device and put the cap back on after every use. (and one you put the cap on the repellant, it no longer fits in the Thermacell device so you have to carry it around separately. I also found that the liquid repellant did not last even half as long as it is rated for whereas the pads for the butane Themacell seemed to last as long or longer than advertised and could be left in the device for weeks (maybe even months) without losing effectiveness.
