This bundle centers on strong RC-70 floor speakers paired with an Onkyo RZ70 that brings Dirac Live and plenty of channel support for a serious home theater. The speakers are described as a clear step up from RC-10s and capable of impressive sound, especially when crossed over to a sub and set to small. The RZ70 is also viewed as the safer receiver choice for demanding setups and higher listening levels. The main caveat is value, since the package looks overpriced if you do not need 11 channels, and the RC-70 upgrade matters less for moderate music or movie listening.
Home theater builders using a subwoofer, because setting the speakers to small with an 80 Hz crossover cleans up mids and reduces distortion at higher levels.
Room-correction tinkerers who want to tune bass integration, because proper crossover setup and Dirac-style calibration can make the system sound cleaner and more effortless.
Movie watchers who want a strong center-focused upgrade, because the center channel carries most dialogue and the towers add little audible change in films.
Two-channel music listeners who already have capable towers and listen at moderate levels, because the RC70s may not sound much better than the RC10s with a good sub.
Listeners chasing effortless reference-level output in a large open room, because the towers can roll off low and may need a very large sub to keep bass punchy.
Set the RC-70s to small and use a 60-80 Hz crossover for home theater. That offloads deep bass to the sub, reduces distortion and power demand, and usually improves clarity and headroom.
If you do not need 11 channels, the bundle is poor value because most of the price is tied up in the AVR. The speakers-only package at $799 is the better buy, and a TX-RZ30 has been available around $700 with most of the same features.
For movies and moderate-volume music, the RC-70s are not a dramatic audible upgrade over RC-10s when a good sub like an SVS PB12 is already in the system. The center channel carries most movie dialogue, so that upgrade is usually more audible than swapping the front towers.
They can work in direct 2.0 listening for music if you do not play very loud and the speakers reach low enough for your taste. The RC-70s still roll off in the low bass, so adding a sub and crossing over around 70-80 Hz is the cleaner long-term setup.
Yes, the TX-NR747 should easily drive these speakers for normal use. If you already have a decent subwoofer and do not need new AVR features, the older receiver is enough.
Any subs you'd recommend to add to these speakers? They came back in stock and I bought them. I have a bic f12 right now but I figured it's time for an upgrade. I don't have a planned budget but figured I'd wait for any black Friday sales. Thanks
Small rooms or predominantly music usage: RSL 10s or (if on a tight budget) 10e
HT in Medium to large rooms: RSL 12s, Hsu VTF-2
HT in Large open plan rooms: Hsu VTF-3 or TN-1; if budget allows and if you are really a hardcore HT basshead, PSA 15" or 18" or 21" vented subs
I have 3x LCR and Rc10s. Anywhere I can just get 2 rc70 to upgrade my fronts?
Have 4xmags in the ceiling for Atmos but my current avr Yamaha tsr7810 only can allowe to use 5.1.2. would going to a rz30 or rz50 be worth it for dirac or not worth spending the $ for marginal gains?

If you seldom listen to music in 2.0 at high volumes, upgrading your front L/R to RC70s won't make much difference at all, especially if you already have your speakers crossed over to a decent sub. During HT, the center does most of the output (60-80%) and the FL/FR do a piddling 20-30% tops.
If your 4 in-ceilings are already in place and properly positioned for Atmos, then yes going with the RZ30 when on sale for $700 would be worth it especially compared to just getting towers.

I did the calculations and I could sell my existing 2 LCRs + the Rc10s and LCR from this package + 2x sanus sf26 stands for around $600-700 so for about a hundred bucks I could get two new rc70s but if it's not worth the hassle I won't.

Wait, you mean you want to go from 5.1 to a 2.1 setup???
Everything depends on YOUR use case. IF you mostly listen to music and like it loud then ok, the towers might be worth it. If you mainly watch movies or if your music listening is done at moderate levels, the RC70s would not be much audible improvement over the RC10 with the PB12.
Really depends how low your Martin Logans can go. If they're useful well below 80Hz, by all mans keep them "Large". Check the specs.Which MLs do you own?

Couldn't find any independent measurements of those speakers. ML claims an F3 of 36Hz, which if honest means that you'd use a 40 to 60Hz high pass filter. IF that 36Hz F3 is based in reality and not pulled out of the ML marketing department's backside as manufacturer specs are at least half of the time, then yes you would theoretically be ok for MUSIC without a sub, but its claimed 4ohm impedance does suggest a power-hungry monster---and not sure if Monolith's 90wpc would really make that big a difference. If you want sheer brute force POWER, I'd suggest going with a Crown XLS class D amp...these are pro amps not snooty-audiophile boutique amps and they will require using a line converter device like a $70 CleanBox but they will give gobs of crystal clear neutral power: just the entry level XLS 1002 gives you 350wpc at 4ohms https://a.co/d/02wNBH2B

No I currently have 5.1.2.
The front sound stage are LCRs. I could buy this package, take the rc70s and then sell my two lcrs that I'm replacing along with the LCR / rc10s from this package as a 5.1 on Facebook. Probably would cost me minimal after selling the unused speakers from this package and the ones I've replacing

What % of your usage is movies/TV, what % is 2 channel music listening?
Movies & TV = you are mostly hearing the CENTER speaker. So if you want an audible upgrade, get a better center speaker. The towers will make diddly difference that is AUDIBLE. If you simply want an AESTHETIC upgrade then ok, some folks prefer the LOOKS of towers. Which are you after, better SOUND, or just better LOOKS?
Gaming spreads the sound much more evenly to all the speakers than movies/TV do, but again upgrding the FL/FR isn't going to make any dramatic audible difference.

Unless your in ceiling speakers are positioned close to this, just keep what you have and enjoy it.
