It also requires a bridge and sync box, so another $300 fyi.

sync box is not required unless you want the lighting synced with the movie. we have one of these and and really enjoy having it on a really warm light for ambiance during movie time.

Some TVs have a Hue App in the TV that requires a subscription, that is cheaper than the sync box (which would only work on 1 TV anyways).
The app requires a Philips Hue Bridge and either a $2.99/month subscription or a $129.99 one-time purchase.

EDIT: Adding clarity. I'm saying this App is INSTEAD of the $300 8k capable sync box.

And terribly expensive if you're just using it for that. Much cheaper options available.

The Play Gradient is designed specifically to mount on the back of a TV. It projects light at a 45-degree angle, comes with brackets, only covers three sides (top and sides), and can't be cut. The standard Gradient Ambience strip is flat, can be cut or extended, and is meant for general home lighting.
