Can you book and cancel 6 times, or book and buy a $2 water and have that count as a booking?

Uber algorithm is terrible. It jacks up prices as it wishes. Compare to Lyft for airport pickup at the same time, $50 vs $29. Shop around.

That's nonsense about the price difference if you're speaking more broadly. Plenty of studies such as this one https://www.inc.com/ava-levinson/...r/91280448 have confirmed that. Of course, you can find specific locals or situations where one tends to be cheaper and have more drivers than the other (e.g., Uber in Boston), but overall, they are quite comparable. Both are dynamic pricing models, so of course they "jack up prices as [they] wish".

Anyone reading this thread is likely seeking a way to get Uber One as cheaply as possible (or free), so bashing the service isn't likely to change that.

That was my own experience from last ride. Not to bash, just to remind people to check both.

Fair enough - shopping the price makes sense if you have the time. The reason I commented Is that there are many people who post misleading in information suggesting that Uber raises me prices because you have a gift card balance, is always more expensive than Lyft, etc. What you experienced is both common and by design - prices will differ and they will fluctuate based upon supply and demand for each platform. If there are several drivers nearby on one platform and none on the other, you're going to get a lowe price quote on the first one.

People need to downvote this some more. In some areas, Lyft is cheaper. In other areas, Uber is cheaper. You can't use your own specific example to generalize it for everyone else.
