The Stanmore III is a large, room-filling Bluetooth home speaker with strong sound and a classic Marshall look. The sound gets praised as punchy and impressive for its size, and it fits well in a bedroom or office without the clutter of batteries or an amp. The main drawbacks are its lack of portability, the 10 minute shutoff, and reports that some older features like AirPlay and internet radio presets were removed. Compatibility with Stanmore II is also called out as an issue, making it a solid pick for stationary listening.
People wanting a large Bluetooth speaker for a bedroom or office, because it delivers strong sound without battery management and fits a clean desktop setup.
No battery is built in, so it is not really a portable speaker. That also means you do not have to manage charging, which makes it better for a fixed room setup.
Yes, $199.99 is described as a very good deal for a new Stanmore III, especially since the Stanmore IV was just released. It is also considered a strong buy if you specifically want the newer-looking Marshall home speaker rather than a refurb alternative.
Those features were on the original Stanmore, but they were stripped out on this model. If AirPlay or internet radio presets matter to you, this version is a downgrade in that respect.
Very good price if a new Stanmore is exactly what you needed. As I shared in another comment, I personally found the other refurbished Action III at $130 a better value to me.
I was torn on a Marshall speaker or a Spark. I went Spark because of the guitar modeling, but it is a lesser quality media speaker for say Bluetooth/AUX...don't get me wrong, the Spark sounds amazing as is, but I had to add a preamp to get the lows/mids/highs just right for say my vinyl record player.
This is a great deal for a quality media speaker, but don't rule out a Spark if you play guitar too.
Thanks for posting the Action III link. I was actually waiting for a deal on Action III based on past readings on multiple deal threads. There were users who reported that Action III has a more balanced frequency range with clear mid range, whereas Stanmore has somehow a bit too artificial bass & low-end frequency. The price of $130 for a refurb sounds like right!
Got the Action III as a gift, it's perfect for the office. Neat aesthetic, good sound, no battery to worry about and doesn't look messy like a pair of passive bookshelf speakers and an amp would

This deal is for the larger Marshall Stanmore III, not the Acton III. The Stanmore III is the bigger home speaker in the lineup.
It will not pair with the Stanmore II. If you want multi-speaker pairing, this model is not compatible with the older Stanmore II units.

This or the Hendrix Acton III, that's a tough dilemma.

I use the Marshal Major IV headphones regularly, which are great. By the way, those can be easily found for $54 open box.
