The Flashforge Adventurer 5M is a fast CoreXY printer that feels unusually capable at this price, with strong print quality, auto leveling, and an easy unbox and print setup. It is especially appealing for learning the basics or adding an enclosure later, and the enclosed setup can handle materials like ASA for under $200 with the kit. The main tradeoffs are the 220 millimeter build plate, open chassis, no multi color or multi material support, and reports of software, app, and firmware rough edges. A solid compact printer if those limits fit your workflow.

  • Coupon codes can fail with security errors or show as used up, making checkout unreliable.

  • The controller can have limited memory and firmware/build-file gaps that complicate Klipper hosting and advanced setups.

  • The 220mm build plate size can feel limiting versus the newer 250-260mm norm.

  • Some units can arrive with poorly leveled beds or belt tension issues that require user correction.

Thanks for posting this deal. I'm new to 3D printing. Are there any websites to get started on this and getting printing templates etc.? Appreciate the pointers.
If you mean models to print, there are several but many of them have much the same models posted to all of them. I like makerworld.com as it's pretty laid out and has a little less of the utter trash models clogging up the pages. I rarely need to venture out to other sites to find models I want to print but they're are some that are not specific, especially if you get into the more premium and paid models. But there really are so many free models out there already and anyone can model their own and share as well.

This seems like an amazing price on a CoreXY, but there are a few caveats that should make you wary:
  1. There have been multiple reports of the printer shipping with poorly leveled beds or over/under tightened belts. There is no actual guidance from Flashforge so you are on your own to figure out how to check and correct this.
  2. The MCU itself is under powered leading to issues like print failures when trying to print something with a lot of motion e.g. gyroid infill. This will come up more than you would think. There are modders out there working on their own firmware forks, but from what I have read they still run into memory issues years into development.
  3. They have released their firmware on github, but without the cfg or makefile it is useless. Speculation is that they only put that much up to avoid a GPL violation.
  4. The printer collects telemetry on everything you print

Ultimately it can be a fun tool, but not one I would buy again. Make sure you fully understand what the issues listed above mean before purchasing.

Can't you just delete the telemetry?

From what I read, it's if you use their own wireless print app and connect it to the internet - something the printer tries to set up by default. For less tech savvy folks, it would be hard to avoid. Otherwise sure, set it to LAN only mode and use actual Orca slicer instead of Flashforge's modified version.

My true biggest gripe is the lack of memory. The controller and host for klipper are both on the main board, they have not released build information on their variant of klipper so you can't add on a raspberry pi to take over as host.
