I really did not think this would matter, but I got this one and a single house really does heat up your room. I'm my case (take it with a grain of salt) my 5k unit vs the 10k actually worked more efficiently and therefore keep the room cooler. I also really abuse mine and it did help when I kept the door open to cool off the rest of the living room better than the 5k unit, but that room itself stayed hotter and when the door was closed made it inefficient.

Thank you, OP. I needed a portable unit for a room at the far end of the house, where the central AC doesn't quite reach...

In our central Californian 100º+ days, that room is unbearable during the summer.

This would be dependent on alot factors, room size, insulation, heat load etc etc

I think you are right. You would definitely expect a high heat load doing pooty tricks with the door closed.

If for short term use, or you don't pay the electricity bill, this is fine.

But I highly recommend:
1. Inverter - allows unit to run a different speeds, different cooling. Prevents harsh on/off cycling
2. Dual hose.... this is a must.

For more info.. google "with a portable AC unit, does an inverter or dual hose matter?"

you're welcome

if you can at all make a window unit work, they are way more efficient and effective. The design of these is pretty fundamentally flawed

but yeah, single hose is even worse and entirely stupid thermodynamically, so I'd skip this

This is the same deal as they had run previously. I had ordered 2 of these at the time ended up returning it as they say it is 10k BTUs per ASHRAE ratings BTUs but actually it is 6k BTUs per DOE ratings.

Here is the old link
https://slickdeals.net/f/19636128

ASHRAE vs. DOE Ratings (For Portable Units)When marketing portable air conditioners, vendors historically highlighted the ASHRAE standard (American Society of Heating, Reheating and Air-Conditioning Engineers). The Marketing Calculation: Traditional ASHRAE calculations only measure the raw cooling output at the coil. The Reality: The SACC/DOE standard (Seasonally Adjusted Cooling Capacity) is a calculation that subtracts the radiant heat generated by the unit's exhaust hose. By advertising the inflated ASHRAE BTU number (e.g., 14,000 BTUs) instead of the actual DOE net cooling capacity (often closer to 10,000 BTUs), vendors make units look far more powerful than they perform.
