The Edition XS is a large open back planar headphone that stands out for huge soundstage, strong detail, and sub bass that feels well above the price. It also responds well to EQ and sounds better from a decent DAC and amp, though it can still play from weaker sources at lower expectations. The main tradeoff is fit, since the loose clamp and oversized headband can slide around without a comfort strap, and the treble can run bright for some. Refurb units have arrived like new, but a few have shown packaging gaps or driver issues.
Music listeners who want a wide, highly detailed planar soundstage, because the headphones sound outstanding and punch far above their price.
Desk listeners who already use a headphone amp or DAC/amp, because the headphones sound fuller and reach peak performance with more power.
Listeners with a large head who can add a comfort strap, because the loose clamp becomes secure and the fit improves.
Gamers focused on story-driven single-player immersion, because the huge soundstage and sub-bass make those sessions especially engaging.
Refurb buyers who need flawless reliability, because units can arrive with loose parts, missing packaging pieces, rattles, or even a dead driver.
People with average-sized heads who want a secure out-of-the-box fit, because the headphones are very large and can slip off with almost no clamping force.
Buyers planning to run them from a regular headphone jack or weak source, because they are harder to drive and can sound subdued without enough current.
Movie and competitive-game listeners who want convincing front imaging, because the soundstage stays wide but the presentation can feel stretched left and right with little sound in front.

sold directly by hifiman
Currently powering them with Topping D30 dac and atom amp. Does a good job. Dont know if other amps would be much of an upgrade though.
