This TCL Roku TV is a budget 4K set that stands out for low pricing and long-term reliability in everyday use. The Roku interface is familiar, sideloading is possible with Google TV on some setups, and several long-running TCL sets are still working well after years of use. The main drawbacks are the smart TV software, which can slow down and show more ads over time, and the built-in audio, which may need a soundbar. It also is not the best fit for serious gaming, where 120Hz sets make more sense.

  • Casual streamers wanting a cheap living-room TV, because Roku is easy to use and regular video looks fine at 60Hz.

  • Long-term TV buyers who want basic reliability, because multiple TCL sets have kept working for years with only minor picture adjustments.

  • Households that plan to use an external streaming box or computer, because the TV can be run as a dumb display when the built-in software feels slow.

  • Serious console gamers, because this budget set is better suited to 60Hz video than 120Hz gaming.

  • Viewers who want a fast, ad-light smart TV interface, because the Roku software can slow down and show more ads over time.

  • People who expect premium built-in audio, because the original speakers can sound weak enough to need a soundbar.

  • Buyers who need a TV with strong backlight longevity, because the backlight can fail after a few years.

still no solid comparison between this one and the 58 Hisense. I have bought the Hisense, but I can cancel the deal. What I don't like it is the Robu part. Probably a TV using just Google TV is better. Google has been less greedy than others in the past, consistently. So I do consider the Robu relationship to be a downside.

I had this TV for 3 years. Backlight died. TCL said sorry, not sorry. Cheaper to just buy a new one than replace the backlight. Won't get TCL.

I find the Google tv OS to be horrible, along with FireTV. Roku is so much better

You can sideload apps with Google TV, which is great for YouTube alternatives.

Have two TCL Roku TVs. Their OS has been getting slower and they've been pushing more ads. Not a fan anymore.
Unfortunately Roku was bought by Fox in June 2026 and the interface is already much worse. Several more ads, "suggested" streaming content, and shuffling your app tray in the name of optimization but really to force you to sift through their crap.

You can kind of restore the minimalist Roku interface by disabling as many settings as possible, but the enshitification is well underway.

These really are heading for dirt cheap pricing for what they offer.

I lobotomize mine and hook a computer up to them. Problem with the shitty TV OS solved.

Both are Roku. The Hisense has variable refresh rate and quantum dot. The TCL has a fake 120hz using backlight flickering. I'd probably get the Hisense.

Definitely. I bought a 49" for $350 twelve years ago, and it's still going strong. I watch a lot of TV, so 6 hours daily.
