This TCL Roku TV is a budget 4K set that stands out for low pricing and long-term reliability in everyday use. The Roku interface is familiar, sideloading is possible with Google TV on some setups, and several long-running TCL sets are still working well after years of use. The main drawbacks are the smart TV software, which can slow down and show more ads over time, and the built-in audio, which may need a soundbar. It also is not the best fit for serious gaming, where 120Hz sets make more sense.

Common Questions (4)

  • The Roku interface can get slower with age and may show more ads and suggested content over time. Clearing the Roku cache can help, and some users also avoid the issue by using an external device or a computer instead of the built-in OS.

  • Several TCL owners report years of use with no major problems, including sets still running after 6 to 12 years. Reported failures include a dead pixel after 4 years and a backlight dying after 3 years, so longevity can be strong but not perfect.

  • TCL is praised for very low pricing and long-term reliability, while the Hisense is described as needing more color tweaking and having better gaming features like VRR and quantum dot on some models. If you want the cheapest Roku TV, TCL fits; if you want more gaming-oriented features, the Hisense is the stronger pick.

  • It is fine for regular video at 60Hz, but it is not the best pick for heavy gaming. For Xbox and PS5, a 120Hz TV is the better choice, and this model is described as not for gaming.

We also have a 49" 3-series for $250 from 6 years ago that is still going strong. Only had to get the pic adjusted & added a soundbar as the original sound was not so good. We also added an Onn 4k Plus box so we don't really use the Roku much anymore

Love tcl w/ Roku but am I dumb for holding out for more hertz?
I mean you either need 120Hz for gaming or not. For just regular video 60Hz is fine.

Same here. Although I attribute much of the OS slowness to age, and was considering this deal to update the hardware. My second, and newer TCL Roku TV is working pretty well.
Try to clear the caches. Home button x 5... up.... RW RW FW FW then wait a few seconds, the menu will start jumping around then it'll restart. See if it's still slow after that.

Have two TCL Roku TVs. Their OS has been getting slower and they've been pushing more ads. Not a fan anymore.
See my reply to Triolent above to see if that helps.

Pretty sure I have this exact TV; it was great... no problems ever with it and I've probably had it like 7-8 years. It just got replaced by a 65" TCL; then a 75' TCL.

I have never had a single issue with TCL Roku TV's and I've owned probably 10 of them in different sizes in different rooms... other than maybe like others said, the interface can get slower over time. But I suggested what seemed to fix mine, the cache clear code. Just do that every now and then when it seems to be lagging.

So anyway. Been a great TV, maybe my best/fav one of all the ones I've had. I have a sweet spot for my 55".

TCL+Roku is all I have and all I'll ever buy if at all possible.

This or the 58" Hisense for $10 less? https://www.bestbuy.com/product/h...ku/6684763
I have only had one experience with Hisense and it hasn't been great. I purchased it in Nov 2022 and within 2 years I had 2 dead HDMI ports. The port the soundbar is on still works, but it cuts out several times per week. A few weeks ago the TV just started randomly shutting off or rebooting. I don't know if this is on par for Hisense or I just got a lemon, but I am not likely to buy another any time soon.

Have done the cache clear, makes no difference. Going to factory reset it and disconnect internet to turn it into a dumb monitor with external smart device.
