Interesting product. From a feature standpoint, this would only be for anyone who "isn't sure" or is looking to scratch an itch without wanting to go seriously into the cash drop of controllers. VirtualDJ is awesome in its full form. The LE version is going to be pretty hampered, more than Serato Lite versions I would expect.

The DDJ-FLX2 has more features, which would be my recommendation for the toy-curious group looking at this level of controller. I use a Rane One, and am open to other members' opinions.

Consider that mid-end DJ controllers retain their value really well, so if you have the means, it could be more cost efficient to just buy a used or refurbished controller (e.g., from Adorama) and then if you don't decide to stick with it, to resell it later. I bought a DDJ-SX2 refurbished and sold it almost a decade later for nearly the same price that I bought it for. Just keep it in the box in good shape, and as long as you get a pro-level product, you can probably get a good resell price.

On the other hand, if you want to just play around without many features, you can get a portable DJ mixer that is much easier to physically transport and handy for parties, such as the Numark DJ2GO series. Something that small has its own utility due to its convenience.

Or, if you have an iPad or a Surface Pro - or even just a regular laptop - you can just use software to DJ. dJay pro is easy for beginners to manage and works with many mainstream controllers (meaning long-term functionality if you decide to start with software only and move to a hardware controller later). There is also high-quality free software that lets you try out mixing without making any upfront investment (assuming you already have a laptop).
