No ban but 25% tariff on small drones starting in 2 weeks.

This model was already authorized in November 2025. The ban took affect in December. And as who was the reason behind it, well, that would be Biden that started it. Trump just took it another step further.

I have this drone. Great one shot 360 camera. For best result, edit in the DNG and you need 3rd party software to stitch it. It does have a JPG but its good only for thumbnail. The video is good too, love the reframe thing.

Strictly, no; practically, yes. Congress instructed the FCC to investigate the transmission of data from foreign made drones to servers outside of the US in late 2024. In late 2025 they completed their findings and recommended that all foreign drones be banned from import and, specifically, all electronics from Chines maker DJI - to include stabilized and 360 degree cameras, be banned from import for sale. Exemptions for certain manufacturers and "toy" models with minimal quality were made. The president, as the defacto head of the FCC, and this president in directing quite a bit of high level decisions within the department, agreed and allowed the ban to go into effect. Feel free to argue with "allowed" vs "didn't prevent"; however he has publicly stated that the US should be a drone manufacturing hub (not his exact words), despite not having a single, substantial US consumer drone manufacturer. He has also imposed a section 232 tariff of 25% (<55lb) and 100% (55lb+) on drones from China (those which are not affected by the ban), and 15% on most other countries which take effect on Sept 3rd (iirc). .

To this drone - it's a good option for 360, though come February there will be a(nother section 232) 25% tariff on many imported parts for repair or maintenance. Hugh Hou on youtube has a review video [youtube.com] as well as a more nuanced followup article [linkedin.com]. Note: I don't own an Avata, but I do own an older mini 4 pro I use mostly for documentation work.

The US bans things when they can't compete, under the guise of national security. Chinese drones, EVs, probably robot vacuums
