I also have a micro for just phone/wallet/keys and a larger bag for when I want to bring a light jacket. The single-pull zipper is definitely a drag, but it's not a real issue for me since I don't keep a lot of loose stuff in the main compartment. If you're planning on keeping lots of small things in it, that might be a deal-breaker.
The strap is a textured nylon that slides around a bit as I walk, but not too bad. I might replace it with a canvas one at some point.
It's also ugly. Just cause it's a man purse, that doesn't mean it can't be a little stylish.

Not sure what you mean about something that's unrelated to their products. Carhartt has made backpacks, tool bags, and other bags [carhartt.com] for years.
You're right that the fabric isn't anything super special: just normal 600-denier polyester. But that fabric is quite durable by nature (popular for athletic duffel bags), and the stitching on mine is straight/solid.
I agree that nobody should pay MSRP ($33) for this bag, but after owning it for a few months, I'd say that $20 (today's price, and what I paid) is reasonable if it meets your specific needs. You can definitely get something cheaper from a random brand on Amazon/Temu, but my experience with pieces like that suggests they're more likely to have the QC issues you talked about. Many will also use a less dense weave and just not list the specific number.
Agree that it's not stylish at all. But I bought it for functional reasons: I recently realized I prefer carrying stuff in a cross-body than my pockets, and most bags are either micros that won't fit my Kindle, larger ones that are bulkier than I prefer, or don't have enough pockets to carry my phone/keys/wallet separate from each other or in a way that's easy to access. This one checks all those boxes, and I have other bags if I care about how it looks.
