Any piece of clothing for $9 is a way good deal, much less my favorite quarter zip jacket.

It's your favorite, for real life?

It's been available for all of 16 days on Amazon based on what I can see, although I suppose one could buy this stuff elsewhere. Would you say that it's a durable piece of clothing, based on your long-term testing and experience?

How are these compared to the Under Armour 1/4 or 1/2 zip ones we have been seeing over the years?

(oh, and can you get more than 1 at the price?)

Just to be clear, those Vine Voices are not paid, but they do receive the product for nothing paid up front (although most Vine Voices keeping up with the program's volume requirements will end up paying something like 40% income tax on the retail value of the products, amounting to a good discount versus a free product).

There's also no requirement the Vine reviews must be positive, it's not even suggested or encouraged. I left plenty of negative reviews during my stint, usually noticing that the products I left bad reviews for were getting numerous other negative Vine reviews - and typically the seller would then just pull the product from Amazon. So if I see a product with a lot of good Vine reviews, I take it as a good sign. Still, I get it, feels kind of icky/sus to see only Vine reviews on something you're considering, especially if you're not familiar with the details of the program.

I was in the Vine program for a few years but left because it was all just too much to keep up with, and way too expensive in taxes, I think I ended up paying something $6K in taxes my last year - and a lot of that on stuff I didn't really need or even want, just ordered/reviewed it to satisfy the requirement for number of reviews to stay in the program. Wife did not like that!

Getting an item you choose for free is a payment. Which is why you get taxed on it as income and it legally has to be labeled. Every time I write this someone who is a Vine Reviewer gets unhappy with the verbage.

Not paying of course skews reviews. And when it's literally only people who got it free that's even more suspect.

I do agree with what you said about the program skewing reviews positive, I think that's just an empirical fact based on multiple studies. It's not going to turn a 1-star product into a 3/4/5-star product though. The effect is a lot less impressive than folks might think, maybe a half-star boost overall. The bad products will still get overall bad reviews.

I do wish Shilldeals/whoever would wait until a product accumulates a good number of reviews other than the 20-30 max Vine reviews it can get before pushing it here.

I will still disagree with the 'paid' status of those reviews; while acknowledging that the tax treatment does classify it as 'income,' that's not how it feels at all as part of the program - it feels like getting a discount on the product in order to leave whatever review you want. For me, if there was any 'payment' involved, it was for the work in evaluating the product and writing the review, in the form of the difference between the discounted amount I paid for the product in income tax, and the market value of the product. I think it's important to note here that the sellers set the taxable value of the product when they submit it for the Vine program, and while some did use a 'typical selling price' as that value, many would just use the list price, which was ridiculous in the frequent situations where a given product never actually sold for the list price but instead at some discounted price. That meant the 40% I was paying often was very close to the price I could get just ordering it normally on Amazon, and on several occasions I actually saw products selling for less than my discounted payment, but ordered it anyway just because I was curious about the product and it helped meet the volume requirement.

Of course, that's just me, entirely possible/likely lots of others in the program did feel the same way you do and that's a valid opinion/position.
