This is the extended Lord of the Rings trilogy in 4K digital form, with the special features and featurettes adding real value for fans. The bundle is Movies Anywhere compatible, and the extras appear in the Movies Anywhere or Fandango app even when they do not show in Prime Video. The deal price can surface differently depending on the landing page, and some purchases have been complicated by gift card or credit application. The main caution is digital ownership, since access and downloads can be affected by platform rules or account issues. A strong digital pickup if you want the extended cuts and bonus material.

Common Questions (6)

  • The 4K HDR remasters have strong Atmos audio and improved white balance over the older green-tinted HD Blu-rays, but they also use heavy noise reduction that can soften fine detail and reduce highlight detail. The 2011 HD extended editions keep more detail and DTS audio, while the theatrical versions preserve the original color and pacing.

  • The bundle is Movies Anywhere compatible, which means it can stay tied to your account across supported services. Amazon's terms also say purchased digital content may become unavailable because of licensing restrictions, so it is not the same as owning a physical copy.

  • The featurettes may not appear in the Prime Video app, but they do show up in Movies Anywhere-compatible apps like Fandango for this bundle. The set also includes about 8 additional hours of featurettes on the Fellowship page.

  • The bundle price can appear differently depending on how you reach the listing. The direct landing page may show $29.99, while the price under "more ways to watch" shows $14.99, and Amazon later fixed the direct link.

  • The checkout can be confusing: the invoice may show $14.99 plus tax charged against a gift card, while the gift card balance does not visibly decrease and digital credit drops instead. That suggests Amazon may apply credits in a non-obvious way.

  • Owning the HD version can block the $15 bundle offer. In that case, the upgrade path may only show individual 4K upgrades at about $8.24 per movie.

I'm cautious about digital only purchases now. Great price. But do you own it? Will Amazon make it disappear as Sony did with over 500 movies people paid money to "own"?
This is Movies Anywhere compatible so Amazon or Sony cannot remove it from your account.

Be cautious with this release. 2 weeks ago Amazon pulled this from customers who already bought this, and now they're reselling it.

Always the best. Why is Hollywood not making those movies anymore?
Because they are bought and paid for to push "ThE MeSsAgE" in lieu of storytelling and videography

They are making them but with terrible writing. Warhammer is coming with Henry cavill producing and keeping the woke nonsense out.

Appreciate this. I bought the 6 film ultimate collection a while back (can't remember where) and the digital was expired. I've been looking for this. I even used some digital rewards. First time I remember doing that.

A new LOR is coming late 2027 but unfortunately it is neither written by Tolkien nor directed by Jackson (a producer)!

Good luck with the movie studios intentionally putting out defective Blu Ray and 4K disks. You have to go through them all before the return date which can be as short as 10-14 days. I've had half of my tv series show up defective. But I have a software program that reads them at high speed. When I check by playing those discs, it's accurate. Dead sectors.

Let's take a look at the Amazon Prime Video Terms of Use - Global:
4. DIGITAL CONTENT

i. Availability of Purchased Digital Content. Purchased Digital Content will generally continue to be available to you for download or streaming from the Service, as applicable, but may become unavailable due to potential content provider licensing restrictions or for other reasons, and Amazon will not be liable to you if Purchased Digital Content becomes unavailable for further download or streaming.

Isn't that convenient. Buy the physical copies, DO NOT RENT.

Did you think to check if your 4k player is defective?

Do I have to watch ads even when purchasing movies from amazon now? They will likely try that soon. I would rather just download the movies and actually have control over them.

The link takes me to the page of "The Lord of The Rings: Extended Edition. 3 movie bundle" at $7.99 discounted from $44.97. Says "Free trial of HBO Max or buy". Does this mean the whole trilogy is 7.99? and available to watch on HBO or Prime? I've seen some people comment this is compatible with movies anywhere, can someone explain how?

Weird, I have this in HD through MA/VUDU and Amazon doesn't seem to be able to show the purchase option for 4K/UHD.
