The DJI Osmo Nano is a tiny wearable action camera that stands out for short, hands free clips and easy mounting on a jersey or helmet. It has swappable batteries, a 4 by 3 native sensor, and strong out of the box color, with the DJI app also getting praise over Insta360. The main drawback is heat, since recording can overheat after about 25 minutes, especially in hot, humid conditions, and firmware changes also reduced 4 by 3 4K 60 frames per second to 50. A compact option if you want flexible framing and quick grab and go footage.

  • Helmet-mounted riders who want a clip-on camera for off-bike moments, because it is easy to carry when the helmet comes off and still captures quick shots.

  • Creators who shoot short clips in 4:3, because the native sensor gives a low-light bump and lets footage reframe cleanly for vertical or widescreen edits.

  • Action-camera owners who want swappable batteries, because the battery can be replaced instead of treating degradation as a dead end.

  • Casual shooters who want ready-to-post color, because the camera's out-of-box colors look great without needing D-Log work.

  • Filmmakers shooting in hot, humid conditions, because the sealed body can still overheat when ambient heat and humidity are high.

  • People recording long continuous takes, because the camera can overheat after about 25 minutes.

  • Users who need replaceable batteries for long-term maintenance, because the battery is not user-swappable when capacity degrades.

  • Creators who need 4:3 4K at 60fps, because firmware can limit that mode to 50fps.

Wtf why? Very curious to here this take.
Any decent video is shot 16:9. 4:3 is for online crap, and doesn't give a panoramic content field of view. Your eyes go left to right naturally, so horizontal content is far more information to your brain than 4:3. If you shoot vertical for shorts, etc. online then note that 1/3 of your content is the ground and the sky which is useless information. Horizontally is almost all useful content. Note - I work in TV and live in Hollywood. This is why one of the reasons Quibi failed, nobody wants to see quality content in non-16:9ish format.

SOLE exception is IMAX, but that's because the screen is so big (at 70mm) it sort of compensates for that.

You do know you can reframe 4:3 to 16:9 after recording right? Without losing any pixels/quality and by using more of the sensor you get better lowlight performance on these action cameras.

LOL - yeah you can crop but you're still losing info in the visual field. You're better off with a native sensor. I also doubt anyone looking for 4:3 video shoots with an initial eye for 16:9 cropping to begin with.

Most action cams are native 4:3 so if you shoot 16:9 you are throwing away data or letting the camera throw away data which is fine because it's easier with no post processing. Many high end cameras used to shoot movies are also native 4:3

Dude I don't think you know what you're talking about. You are not losing any visual info, in fact you are gaining more pixels and light performance from the sensor. I record in 4:3 for the small lowlight performance bump and also so that I can upload to either Youtube 16:9 or Instagram 9:16 without zooming in and losing pixel detail. Your original claim that anyone recording in 4:3 doesn't deserve to own a camera is an absolute clown position. The Osmo Nano sensor is 4:3 native....

Most content creators are moving towards a square type sensor for easier crop. The speed shooter are doing 6k or 8k camera to either crop after (reframe) or stabilization. Canon has magic lantern to get you the open gate. I dont think sony has it until the latest one (maybe?).

I am learning to do anamorphic. 1.2x on pocket 4 is the cheapest combo I can test that on. The name of the game for camera is versatility. I think a square sensor has more versatility. The best camera is the camera you have with you.

I wish! I've updated mine and it still overheats. I'm assuming it also has to do with your environment. I'm in 100 F + temps with humidity in FL
That is completely normal. Most electronics will over heat in that type of environment. Let alone a camera that's completely sealed for waterproof up to 33 feet with no vents. I mean human will overheat in that type of environment too.

I have an insta 360 go ultra and debated this instead of that when I purchased about 6 months ago. At this price, if take this even though the go ultra generally has better reviews. I want to say I paid around $100 more for the go ultra and it's been phenomenal even though my other gear is dji. I think dji has a better app too vs insta.

I wish they would put replaceable batteries in the Nano and Pocket series. Sucks when they start degrading and can't replace.
Oof as a longtime GoPro user, the swappable batteries are clutch!

The fullsize Action line has but I guess these tiny ones all have non-replaceable ones.

I'm not a huge recorder but considering this for skiing. Does it have issues at lower temps or just overheating?

For example last year, I was at a ski hill that was 3F at the summit
