So a dongle. A dock implies it's externally powered

I'm a little confused, how many of these kinds of devices have internal power supplies? Seems like you're saying if they included the 85W PD brick it's a dock, but if they don't it's a dongle?

It has pass through power. It doesn't COME with a PS but one can be plugged into it.

I thought a dock provided extra functionality. A port replicator uses the existing functionality of the system to provide more individual ports. A hub takes one port and multiplies it. A dongle is small and converts one port into 1-3 others.

Don't take this as fact. Just what I had assumed over the years.

This is a hub. Not a dock.

My standard was always if I can turn on or off the laptop from the dock, it's a dock. If I can't, it's a hub/dongle.
