In the past when this is offered, they charged you $2.50 per month, but offset it with a credit per month of $2.50 for 24 months. If you cancel service before the 24 months they charge your account the balance. That was for a $60 camera, this one is saying a $120 value. I wonder if they will now charge you $5 per month, with a $5 credit for 24 months. The whole thing is to get you to upgrade to their security monitoring services for additional fees for more control and features.
Community Reviews
The free Xfinity Shield camera is mainly a live view security camera, with motion and people detection, app setup, and indoor or outdoor use. Shipping and activation appear to be working for some accounts, and one bill check showed no added charges after a week. The main catch is that recording, cloud storage, and playback require a paid subscription, and the camera may be useless as a standalone device. Eligibility and redemption are also flaky, with missing offers, error messages, and account specific availability issues.
Xfinity internet customers who want a basic live-view camera, because it can work without recording and motion alerts are available after setup.
Homeowners planning to use the camera with an Xfinity app setup, because activation and connection are handled through the app and the unit can be added as Xfinity equipment.
Xfinity members whose rewards page is already working, because the offer can appear and redeem successfully once eligibility and account access line up.
People who only need a simple indoor or outdoor monitor, because the camera supports both use cases even though storage and playback are paid features.
People who need reliable reward redemption, because the offer can disappear, show eligibility errors, or fail with repeated redemption messages.
Shoppers expecting a truly free camera with no ongoing costs, because recording, playback, and motion detection can require a monthly subscription.
Anyone wanting a standalone security camera, because it has no SD card slot and live viewing is the only clear no-subscription use.
People who want a quick plug-and-play install outdoors, because the included power adapter is indoor-only and setup can require manual Wi‑Fi steps and resets.

My home page says "get eligible rewards failed" and has said this for weeks now.
Agents and support team seem to either not see it or say this is normal.

There was no terms or conditions that mentioned that, so I guess we'll see once you activate it. I will cancel otherwise and return to the store.

Don't trust Comcast with a camera inside your house. Don't trust that the service will stay free. Don't even trust that this is free today, they're probably selling the data as AI training to make these "free".
