The free Xfinity Shield camera is mainly a live view security camera, with motion and people detection, app setup, and indoor or outdoor use. Shipping and activation appear to be working for some accounts, and one bill check showed no added charges after a week. The main catch is that recording, cloud storage, and playback require a paid subscription, and the camera may be useless as a standalone device. Eligibility and redemption are also flaky, with missing offers, error messages, and account specific availability issues.

Common Questions (5)

  • Eligibility appears to depend on account status and reward targeting, and some accounts simply do not see the offer in the app or on desktop. The camera may also require a primary Xfinity ID, an account in good standing, and in some cases Xfinity home protection or an activated Xfinity router and WiFi Shield.

  • The camera can be used for live viewing without a subscription, but recording, cloud storage, and playback require a paid plan, reportedly around $10 per month. It has no SD card slot, so those features are not available locally on the device.

  • Checking the lower-left membership benefits area and the redeem tab can help, and the app may work better if you close other Xfinity windows, use a saved link, and log in after noon. Some users also saw the offer appear only after activating Xfinity WiFi Shield or an Xfinity router.

  • The camera itself is free, but it may still be tied to Xfinity equipment terms and optional paid services. The main cost risk is the subscription for recording and playback, and some users are watching for any surprise fees after activation.

  • The offer did not mention extra charges in the terms some users saw, and one activated camera showed no added charges on the next month's statement. Earlier Xfinity camera promos reportedly used monthly credits and could leave a balance if canceled early, so it is worth checking the bill after activation.

Not sure if this has anything to do with availability or not, but you may need to have their Xfinity router and their wifi "shield" activated. It showed up for me and I just activated the shield this morning

As usual my perks are not updating. I think this happened to several of us from what I have seen here on the forums. Calls and chats unfortunately have led nowhere and support has no idea how membership rewards works. Diamond member here too. This frustration has tipped the scales for me and I'm headed to fios.

My home page says "get eligible rewards failed" and has said this for weeks now.

Agents and support team seem to either not see it or say this is normal.
Anyone else have problem with how slow getting to the rewards actually is. It takes forever for me.

Buyer beware…. Free is never free with Xfinity.

In the past when this is offered, they charged you $2.50 per month, but offset it with a credit per month of $2.50 for 24 months. If you cancel service before the 24 months they charge your account the balance. That was for a $60 camera, this one is saying a $120 value. I wonder if they will now charge you $5 per month, with a $5 credit for 24 months. The whole thing is to get you to upgrade to their security monitoring services for additional fees for more control and features.

There was no terms or conditions that mentioned that, so I guess we'll see once you activate it. I will cancel otherwise and return to the store.

For those having issues, can you check on the lower left of your account page for a "your membership benefits" box to see what is under your "redeem" tab? I have seen "get eligible rewards failed" there forever. www.xfinity.com/account
Not even that page is updating for me, I have a feeling this wasn't supposed to drop yet.

If that's it, then since I'm on own equipment. I'll never see it. Oh well not like I really needed it, I've already got a dvr surveillance system set up.

I don't have the reward available to me, but under redeem it says I have 4 active benefit(s). I have had it in the past say that I had non despite having some, but I have not had it fail as you have. Sorry you're having troubles with it, that can be frustrating.

Same situation, not seeing it (or anything). I've had a lot of problems with rewards showing up/disappearing, not showing up at all. Sometimes what I see in the app differs from what I see on my computer. Sometimes the app has more, sometimes it has less. Totally unpredictable.

This is the frustrating experience lately, it seems their rewards system isn't just fairly offering rewards to all. Not even based on tier, it almost seems like whatever logic they use to display them is over correcting to the point of many of us never even seeing them at all even if we're supposed to be eligible.

they usually give away a useless camera and no recording options, only work on online and wired one. I threw one of them -

Agreed. I also think it doesn't serve any purpose as a standalone without a subscription service.

I'm not one to actually back Xfinity or any corporate overlord, but the previous $60 free camera offer had the $2.50 charge mentioned in the fine print. This offer doesn't seem to mention that at all, so I'm cautiously optimistic this is legit.

Don't do it.
Don't trust Comcast with a camera inside your house. Don't trust that the service will stay free. Don't even trust that this is free today, they're probably selling the data as AI training to make these "free".

I mean they already turned their gateways into motion detectors in homes. They now want video to go with it. https://www.theverge.com/news/981...on-sensing
