This retractable Baseus USB C cable is best for travel and bag carry, where the tidy wind up design keeps cords from tangling and makes it easy to grab and go. The 3.3 foot length works well for a desk, car, or travel bag, and the cable can lock at multiple lengths while retracting from both ends. It also charges at up to 100 watts and stores neatly. The main cautions are that the short length can feel cramped at home, the mechanism adds bulk, and some cables have failed or become finicky over time.

  • The 3.3-foot length works well when the power source is nearby, such as on a table or in a car.

  • The retractable design helps prevent tangling in backpacks and travel bags for faster access.

  • The cable retracts at both ends simultaneously with multiple length stops for flexible desk or table use.

  • The retracting mechanism can keep working after years of use across multiple cables for storage convenience.

  • The cable ends can heat to uncomfortable levels after about an hour when charging at high 5A rates.

  • The retractable coil mechanism can be bulky and reduce usable length while adding weight and stress.

  • Reliability can be inconsistent, with reports of cables failing completely within the first week.

  • Some cables can stop carrying current or stop recoiling, even when another unit from the same purchase works.

How well does the retraction mechanism hold up on cables like these?

I have two of the longer version of this that I've had for a out a year. They're great so you don't have cords everywhere when not in use. 3' is a little short for home use I'd find, but this is perfect for travel or on the go and not having to wrap up cords and have them sloppy in your bag.

I've had two of the 3.3ft and two of the 6.6ft ones for about 8 months now, and they're my "daily driver" cables.

So far it's held up. Something I like is that it has multiple "stops". So you can lock it/release it at different lengths.

With this particular design the cable retracts at both ends simultaneously. Some of these retractable cables you can retract one end or the other independently, but that's not how these Baseus ones work.

Regarding someone mentioning bending the cable, this doesn't seem any different than gently coiling a cable. It's not like if you tightly wind a cable in your hand and tie it off with a cable tie.

The 3.3ft works if your USB hub, device, powerbank, etc. are all on a table or desk near where you're working. For anything like running from a wall charger to your laptop that's too short for me.

The 6.6ft is a good length, but is significantly thicker/larger. The 3.3ft is quite small whereas the 6.6ft is approaching air hockey puck size.

The code in this promo only works for the 3.3ft version.

these items are the kind of stuff you get real cheap on temu or alixpress. they are even half the cost of this "sale price" ($3, or even cheap at $1), most have a 3-in-1, instead of just USB-C. obviously it may take longer to arrive.

now you might say, 'but amazon return process is easier', but no. for cheap items like this under $10, the return is immediate as soon as it's marked shipped, basically the moment you drop it off at post office. a stark difference from Amazon lately; where they have been stonewalling refunds (they are extremely backlogged, and Prime Day didn't help). amazon's gotta inspect the items after it has arrived (even then the expected refund day can be delayed), and will delay your refund to make maximum interest on your money. this was not the way in the past; amazon would typically refund right away, but they are changing.

the item from these cheaper sites likely doesn't get returned anywhere back to china, but probably goes to a landfill; based on my limited research, since the item is so cheap, it's basically disposable). besides that, they don't "die" until outside of return window anyway.

NOTE the Amazon reviews for this item, and why it's only 4 stars - a major ding against it is the 'Durability', where it dies after 3 months.

It does seem to suffer the curse of retractable cables by being prone to failure. However, as a brand they seem to have some solid tech products. Recently took their international travel adaptor to the UK.

I've never really found a good use case for wind up cables. The convenience to keep the hidden is nice but I prefer having them just ready to go immediately

Backpacks/travel bags. That's the use case. These don't get all tangled which makes pulling them out and having them ready to go faster

I have one of these. The coiling mechanism is pretty bulky and takes up part of the 3 foot length. The coil mechanism also adds weight and stress to the cable, making it fall out if one of the connectors is loose, as is common with heavily used power jacks, like in airplanes. Some of these problems would be solved with the 6 foot length and I might buy one of those if it was on sale for this price.

FYI i had 2 crap out on me completely within the first week. I returned them. The third one I had is still working. Maybe I got unlucky with those first two but YMMV.
