This has to be a better solution than a box cutter!

I have the Ryobi model. It is okay, but a sharp utility knife is probably faster especially around cardboard corners.

It is until you realize you need to break the boxes flat first, then make sure they aren't too flimsy

I use this in conjunction with another blade, to cut the tape on the box.

Got one of these a while back based on great reviews. Found it not as useful as I hoped it would be. Would not buy again.

Same I got the worx deal one a while back and don't use it as much as I thought it would. A sharp box cutter is more useful for everyday tasks unless you're constantly breaking down boxes or something

A lot of folks don't see the point of these. After all, one can just use a utility knife easily. At first I thought the same but still got one on a whim. I'm glad I did. It hardly ever gets used, but when you need it, you'll be glad you have it.

The primary use it gets is for the few occasions when you buy something with a really think cardboard box -- like a large vacuum or microwave or something heavy. You need to throw out the box but you HOA doesn't like packaging lying open. So you need to cut it out to make it fit into your recycle bin. A utility knife will do the job, but it'll be a chore. This makes the job quick and effortless.

If you are okay with having a tool lying about that'll come in handy only once or twice a year, then go for it. If you think you are going to use it for regular Amazon shipping boxes, you're mistaken. It's faster to just crush or rip them by hand - i.e. if you flatten the boxes at all.

Agree with this 100%. I coach kids for Odyssey of the Mind and we cut a LOT of cardboard. This is safe for young kids to use on their own, and even the older kids like how smoothly it cuts through cardboard. We have tried a lot of tools and the Canary knife is the hands-down favorite.

But the automated rotary cutter is tempting for when they need to cut through large pieces fast...

Completely agree. I bought it. Most of my boxes have tape covering 4x4 sides. If I have to manually remove tape, I am already flattening it.

Plus the thickness of the box makes it challenging and I really gotta hack at it.

Not as stellar as I thought it would be.
