This ThinkCentre M75Q G2 Micro stands out as a compact, enterprise-grade Ryzen 5 PRO box that fits home lab, light server, and everyday desktop use. The AMD Pro chip adds DASH out of band management for remote power, BIOS access, and reimaging, and the platform is described as having strong driver support and solid long term reliability. It also has two dual channel SODIMM slots and can take up to 64GB DDR4 3200, with ECC support suggested. The main limits are that it is not meant for gaming or AI workloads, and 16GB may feel tight for heavier lab setups. A practical small form factor pick with useful remote management.

Common Questions (4)

  • Yes, the AMD Pro CPU supports DASH out-of-band management, which can provide remote power control, BIOS access, and reimaging without physical access. That is especially useful if the machine sits in a closet, basement, or other hard-to-reach spot.

  • Yes, the Ryzen 5 PRO 5650GE and ThinkCentre Tiny platform are well suited to low-hassle homelab use, shared browsing, and light server duty. The system is also described as a strong value versus newer small-form-factor PCs, especially when DDR4-based systems are still viable.

  • It has two dual-channel-capable SODIMM slots and can support up to 64GB of DDR4-3200. That makes the 16GB config easy to upgrade later if you need more memory for a lab or heavier multitasking.

  • For many users, yes: 16GB can handle heavy browser use, including 30+ Brave tabs plus several Firefox tabs, while staying around 11-12GB used. Chrome is the bigger memory hog, so browser choice matters.

I have a m75 tiny with AMD Ryzen™ 5 PRO 3400GE purchased in June 2020 docked to a ThinkCentre touch screen monitor as an AIO. I purchased with 8GB and added another one soon after. It's been going strong still.

Decent deal with this one given high memory and SSD prices. Highly recommend the ThinkCentre tiny PC series for the quality.

You can squeeze a some gaming out of these. At least with the 3400GE Thinkcenter, upgrading the power brick got you a performance boost.

Arrright, somebody gotta explain this to me, like I'm 5 years old since clearly I'm missing something here! 69 up votes, for not just a dinosaur chip, but a "refurbished" system meaning 'used'. It barely has enough RAM or storage to breath and yet for some reason you all love it ? Please.... Explain yourselves! I'll take a shot in the dark here and say it's probably all AI bots playing with all thumbs, just to see if they can do it. Otherwise, there is no world in any universe or multi-verse where this beats modern offerings for similar numbers!

Depends on the browser he uses. Chrome will eat every bit of 16 gig of RAM, and then some!

Why don't you have physical access in your homelab?
Two reasons.
First extra PCs generate heat and noise, maybe they're in a closet, maybe they're in the basement?
Second even if they're on your desk, with the out of band management you don't have to have a separate keyboard monitor mouse or a KVM switch you just need a network cable and an IP address that you console into from your main system.

Chrome is the problem. I use to always run out of 16gb on chrome daily, but on Brave with 30+ tabs open I'm nearly always under 11-12gb usage total. And usually I also have Firefox open with 5+ tabs open.

It's not a dinosaur chip, it's 3 generations old. It's also a Ryzen Pro series, which is still a rock solid CPU. Right now, used systems are generally the best value in a computer these days. Few people actually use the power an Intel Ultra 5 or 7 chip, or Zen 4 or Zen 5 chip gives you (and that completely ignores the cost difference). It's also a ThinkCentre Tiny, which is one the best made MFF pcs you can get.

Show me the modern offerings that are genuinely better for the same $$.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you are completely out of touch with the PC landscape this past year. AI blew up, and the companies that host it are buying up a ton of the parts that are used for PCs. The result is that things like RAM, SSDs, and HDDs have shot up in price. For example, a DDR5 module I bought in 2023 for ~$70 is now $300+.

Ryzen 5000 series CPUs are great, especially now. Not because they suddenly got more powerful. But because they are still perfectly viable CPUs that use DDR4 RAM. DDR4 RAM has gone up in price as well. But not nearly as much as DDR5. And there tend to be a lot more deals like this Lenovo or on places like eBay and Facebook Marketplace. DDR5 is much more expensive and it's hard to find any worthwhile deals.

One last thing to give you perspective. Microsoft has stopped recommending 16 GB of RAM and is now saying that 8 GB is fine. They know that pushing for 16+ GB is cost-prohibitive now.

I understand it has two dual-channel capable SODIMM, and can support up to 64GB, DDR4-3200. Of course RAM is not as easy to come by anymore, but if you need it, you can get it
If you need RAM you can get it? Right,.. All it costs is money. Lots of it.

Thinkcentre PCs are built and supported to enterprise standards, meaning the components last longer than budget brands and driver updates and availability is among the best.
This isn't for gaming or AI workloads, but ideal for low hassle grandparent's computer, shared web browsing terminal, or even light server duty.
Exactly. I think some people just look at specs and judge by them. Lenovo/Dell/HP mini (or SFF) PCs are built to last with reliable performance, unlike those boxy mini PCs with high specs flooding the market these days. Each have their own purpose. Lenovo/Dell/HP are better to run as servers while others are more fit for everyday use and/or gaming.
